Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff!
So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P
To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!

If that's how you define regulate, then yes. I define it more along the lines of being able to control it.

recently i finished science fair, with a science project that studied how temperature affects chemiluminescence. i got 1st place in the regional category, with a few special awards from a couple chemical sociteies, and 3rd place in state. I cant wait until next year when i can participate in the international level science fair.

Sounds interesting. Mind explaining your project?

(And they do regulate the temperature by building their mound like that. They're using that natural way of cooling.)

Hm, well the termites aren't exactly regulating the temperature... The mound is, which they built. So honestly it would have been better to say, they can build something to regulate temperatures.

Excellent job, but as dragon said, mind adding details, and your conclusions? Otherwise you are just stating a fact(if you are truthful) and it isn't exactly helping the thread(can be considered spam too). Now if you post details, your findings, etc. then that would become a worthy discussion!
Oh, and I hope you do, it would be very interesting.

Well, how do you guys feel about our current medical technology? I think it will sky-rocket when we find a good cure (besides diet changes) to cancer. As of today, I think it is kind of sad that doctors diagnose pretty much every kid with Asthma now.

The air quality does have an impact on our young generations (obviously). However, maybe like 3 out of so many actually have "Asthma". The rest just have respiratory issues because of the air pollution, not necessarily Asthma... Then both parent and child worry about the diagnosis. When they really needn't worry, pay for broncho dilators(inhalers), preventatives, etc.
They just need to take it easy when they feel short of breath.
Oh yeah, and then schools and insurances treat these "Asthmatics" poorly and are constantly on their butt about their 'condition'. I remember one time in school, this kid's parent wrote asthma on the school "health" form, and then the school did not let the kid do anything for gym/p.e until he got an inhaler...
I was awed by the B.s, I have seen the kid run, and he doesn't show symptoms like short of breath and hard times breathing nor did he complain of it.

Thank You! I have asthma and i really don't get how some kids say they have asthma and they can breath just as well as others without asthma. I think that the medical technology needs to be updated by a lot. Unfortunatly, as much as i want there to be a cure for asthma.(I have asthma in case you wondered.) I don't think there's a reason for it if we don't have clean air. In new york the air is very polluted and by the time you cure one kid with asthma another will probably be born with it. So at this point I say we clean the source of the illnesses and then go to clean up the illness themselves.

I can't agree more! We just might diminish the source soon; renewable resources are becoming more popular... Hopefully in time, dominate.
From there, we wouldn't really need a cure (if one could even be made...). This is because with less pollution, less respiratory problems. Our lungs will heal, and over time we may become immune to environment educed (main cause in my opinion) Asthma.

What do you think of nuclear energy?

Hm, I don't like it that much. Too many morons, too many possibilities. Just do away with nuclear... It isn't worth it.We can use wind, solar, geothermal, biofuel, etc. If people start to actually emphasize it, it can meet or exceed the demand fossil fuels have. All it takes is realization to click...

I see it as being a very viable source, but, as you said, people are idiots and screw everything up.

Even if they were smart, I'd still be iffy about the subject...

Why would you be? I don't see any problems that couldn't be fixed with a bit of ingenuity.

Did the Liberal media get to you?
It seems that no matter what, people will always oversell the dangers of nuclear energy.
