Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff!
So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P
To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!

Then they would almost certainly panic.

Panic, boom, dead. Now our ocean buddies evolve and become superiors! Lol, but really panic ants with human brains would not be a good thing...

Well, since they are the only surface life left, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

But they are also driven by instict. Even we are instinct driven beings. They would feel huger, so they would keep eating instead of starving as a martyr.

If their base instincts are like those of ants on Earth, then those instincts would allow them to sacrifice themselves for the greater good of the colony.

Well I think the canabalism is towards ants in other colonies not in their own.

Even if it was targeted at others, it would still end in starvation.

It seems that any animal that developes a good deal of intellegence also develops an ego to match.

Yup. that's because as our intelligence grows, we learn to adapt the environment to fit our needs. Instead of changing ourselves to fit the environment. And after doing that we call ourselves big because we did what other animals haven't. But standing out isn't always a good thing.

Even in Earth animals we can see ego in place. Apes readily show ego and their grasp of ecodomination is rhudamentary at best.

Apes have egos but they don't change their enviroment much.
Is that good?

Yeah. so what you're saying is that the egos are just something that happens with intelligent animals in general right? But what about dolphins? do they have egos?

Ants also change their environment to fit their needs. Best example though are the termites, they even have cultures deep in their cities and are able to slightly regulate/keep stable the temperature within their home. Are they intelligent? Well...
But what about dolphins? do they have egos?

They are able to recognize themselves in a mirror, so I guess yes.

I can't think of any examples, but yes.

Termites don't regulate their mound's temperature, it is just designed in a way that naturally keeps it cool in Africa. If you go look at them, they all face the same direction. Evolution, not intellegence, developed that design.

Ya. My point. You don't need intelligence to regulate your environment. (And they do regulate the temperature by building their mound like that. They're using that natural way of cooling.)
