Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff!
So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P
To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!

Hm, I don't like it that much. Too many morons, too many possibilities. Just do away with nuclear... It isn't worth it.We can use wind, solar, geothermal, biofuel, etc. If people start to actually emphasize it, it can meet or exceed the demand fossil fuels have. All it takes is realization to click...

Those sources don't produce nearly as much energy as nuclear power plants do. It may be dangerous but the people handling it are not idiots (except for homer simpson).

It's not the engineers that are idiots, it's the beurocrats.

True but it still has nuclear waste. And it doesn't go away for 10,000 years. I wouldn't want to bury 10,000 years worth of nuclear waste into the earth.

They could just reenrich the rods so they could use them again.

Im sure if they could do that and it was smarter then they would.

I believe that they don't do it because it's against the law. Beurocrats strike again.

Not used to my new armatar. Keep reading my own posts.....

But if you send it into space you do 1 thing bad and risk another. you

1. send CO2 out because of rocket feul

2. have a chance of the ship exploding nuclar waste into our atmosphere.

Renriching the rods sounds good. The only problem would be of one like cherybol or japan. And if we take a chance we don't want it to be big. We want small chances. for example, the worst a windmill could do is kill a few birds that are stupid enough to fly towards it.

I'm also pretty sure sending a rocket loaded with nuvlearly radioactive material would get us nuked.....

Wind is very unreliable in most places.

Well in the places without wind there is sun. or potentail for dams. or geo gas pits

Go to this site.
The picture should say it all.

Soo.......... Does this mean i'm right? because they have a solar panel.

More or less, but any form of energy gathering has a slight degree of unreliability. What happens when you have eight straight days of rain?

Why would they need a solar panel there, anyway?

Well, I was busy writing a poem sorry for my absence...

Did the Liberal media get to you?

No, I could care less what the media wants to lie about.

True but it still has nuclear waste. And it doesn't go away for 10,000 years. I wouldn't want to bury 10,000 years worth of nuclear waste into the earth.

So send it into space

Very correct dair, as for you master, honestly? You come up with sending it into space!?
As dair has brought up:
1. send CO2 out because of rocket feul

2. have a chance of the ship exploding nuclar waste into our atmosphere.

Also, Dragon has brought up a good point too, we would for sure get nuked if we send a shuttle full of radio activity anywhere.

They could just reenrich the rods so they could use them again.

If they could they would, no matter what the laws makes of it.

Yes, wind is unreliable, but solar and hydroelectric are very reliable, geothermal is a nit more rare, but very powerful (i think it is iceland that is mainly ran by it?).
As for the straight eight days of rain, are you forgetting stored energy? The solar panels create electricity, and store it for when it is needed. The stored electricity would help them through the rain. Also, as of now, solar won't replace the electric bill completely...So... use the electricity offered...
When will the sun cease? When will the tides stop?

Not in a long time... Solar and hydro are very reliable sources. Expensive at the time, but beneficial in the future!
