Has anyone seen it in real life? I have and it's tiny! I thought I'd be completely in awe of it, but it was so busy that you're not even allowed to stop and look at it!
No; I haven't, but I'm going. I knowed it was tiny but despite that; it took over a year to paint it! If it wasn't that expensive; it would be a waste of time to paint it.
Yes I have, it's really no big deal. Its a huge room, for a very small painting. There are lots of people standing in front of it, but you have tot wait in line to see it, and only for a certain amount of time (maybe these rules were only applied when there were lots of groups to speed things up, I don't know).
My question is, what exactly is the backdrop? Do I see a road there?
She is most likely on a balcony and the back drop is the view from the balcony.
Has anyone else ever noticed that she has no eyebrows?
I believe that I read somewhere that when they did a restoration on it one time the solution they used removed her eyebrows.

Art is never a waste of time, regardless of the monetary worth of the piece. For all you know, he took that long cause he didn't like something about it.

backdrops in portraits during those times were often fabricated to make the piece stand out more. it is more than likely that the background in that painting was painted randomly by da vinci to add emphasis
