No it isn't, well, not if you're going by the Western usage of the word anime - we tend to use it to mean 'animated shows that originate in Japan' and Avatar was made outside of Japan so...

Lol. I don't really have a top 5 ranking, but here are the top 5 mangas I like the most (no order):

-Death Note
-FMA
-One Piece
-Fairy Tail
-Naruto

And there was an other really good one, but I don't know if it counts as manga...

true i guess that is the same what i think anime means.

Heres my top 5 and the reason for there rank

1.) Inyuasha (Brillant story and character devlopment and its a classic you can never beat the classics)
2.) Kekkaishi (Brings a new fighting concept to the anime world that of catching spirts/demons in a barrier instead of the usually slaying of demons with sword,arrows and the like)
3.) Bleach (Good fighting squences)
4.) Death Note (good story line)
5.) Full Metal Alchemist (Based off something real which is not very common for animes to do)

naruto has cool animation, but i've only bought like 2 of the episodes form the book store
