People often complain about how their prayers always go unanswered, and I was just wondering what the AG community thought about this topic. I was also interested in where your opinions where on asking God for something.

I'd like your sources on this one because I bet it'll be either a 'christian science' or apologetics website.

Newspapers aren't exactly the best place to get factual information with scientific evidence backing them up - newspapers print whatever 'out there' stories they can find to draw in a bigger readership.

Newspapers scaremonger to get more readers. I found a link here to the article but that is probably placebo or faked.

There aren't any facts backing up the existence of God and thus is not logical.

I'd say that statement is incorrect; and it deals to much in absolutes. Foreshadowing in the Bible, as well as unexplainable miracles, are pretty hardy facts.

My mother was in the hospital because of a car accident. The doctors said she was going to die. that she had no chance of living. All of my family prayed and prayed. Then, A tall man asked the doctors if he could see her. He told them he was her sister. But my mother doesn't have a sister! He said "i am her sister, steven. May i see her?" the doctor said he could. he walked in and said "you will live. You are going to get up and walk this afternoon." he touched her face and kissed her on the forehead. he smiled and walked out. When he got to the last door, he left. No one ever saw him again. SO my mother walked that afternoon. she was alive. she is still today. Everyone claims that Steven was an angel from heaven. I believe prayer helps everything.

What foreshadowing in the bible? And how do you know that a miracle was made by your God. I'd say no evidence which can overcome the massive evidence against it.

There are no unexplainable miracles. "Foreshadowing" is pretty easy, I could do it. "There will be a big war. Weapons on both side will spit fire. Buildings will fall". See? I just say something general that happens all the time, and I will be right. It would be more impressive if they could get a fricken date right, like there will be a war on April 1 19999 or something then it may be more believable.

So some strange cross-dressing guy claiming to be your mothers sister apparently molests your mother back to life and you're using that as proof of God? I'd use it as proof of lousy hospital security. I'd also like to point out that, even if hospitals tell you to be prepared for the worst, that doesn't always mean that there's no chance of recovery - just that it's highly unlikely. Thank medical science and not some homeless gender-confused pervert.

There are some conflicting studies on the effectiveness of prayer. Some studies have shown it to be slightly more effective than the mean placebo range and others have seen it equally or even less effective than placebo. The only consistent finding, though, is the inconsistency of results from prayer.

Basically what it boils down to is that it isn't so much whether or not prayer really works (it doesn't), it is that the belief in its power causes psychosomatic response in the patient. It is not some supernatural being intervening on behalf of the people praying to cure someone or help them in a specific situation, it is the human body responding to commands from the brain to create results in the same way that a placebo creates effects like the actual drug one is told they are taking would cause.

Well, perhaps you should pick one up sometime and read it. You might find it interesting

As for miracles being performed by God; there aren't buddhists or muslims flocking to miracles such as Our Lady of Fatima or incorruptable bodies, saying, 'that was our God!'

Wolf, good luck writing a book, and trust that in a few thousand years one man verifies what you say, which includes suffering an extremely painful death.

Ah jeez I mean 314d1. Not Mage. You and Qwerty's responses were on pg. 23 and 24, and I forgot who said what.

It's probably not possible to such a scale now, as the populace in general is educated enough to see that it would be utter BS. The only reason so many people now believe in religions is that they are already established, have been followed for thousands of years, and are indoctrinated from birth 99% of the time (Statistic made up, but ask ANYONE who's religious if they were raised that way, I can gurantee you the vast majority will say that they were.)

There are still examples of small time new religions, aka a cult. If you notice however that none has taken a strong foothold, that just proves the point that the majority of the populace is not "that" stupid and has some common sense after all.

Kasic what the heck did that have to do with what I say? My point was that when 314d1 said he could foreshadow, I pointed out that predicting a storm is different than writing that someone would perform miracles and die on a cross a couple thousand years before it actually happens.
