Do you believe the US government is doing enough to defend the border to Mexico? Support your reasoning. What should be done? What shouldn't be done?

Well it would be wrong to take the first guy that "looks mexican" or speaks spanish and ask for their I.D. Especially if they are citizens who just don't carry I.D.

If they are crossing the boarder illegally then I don't see why we shouldn't.

Well the thing about racial profiling is you don't know. It's spot the first mexican you see on the street and ask for I.D. And just to be clear we are talking about people already in Arizona right?

Ok lemme clear some confusion between you two:
dair5 stated,"I like the idea of building up border security but there should definitly not be any racial profiling happening."

He meant, "I like the idea of more border security, but the racial profiling that is happening in states like Arizona should not be implemented."

I apologise for the all-caps, but I made it clear in the first post that I wanted you to support your reasoning.

ah i see now, i thought you were enthusiastically agreeing when you were in fact telling me to support his reasoning, i apologise, but still all caps is bad

Technically you are trolling (a form of spam) because your post contained no relavance to the thread.

yes, i know what trolling is?! and neither did that post, does it really matter? do you really care? i was simply educating you as to the sites rules

Yes exactly, thank you. If they want to find illegal immagrants they should find a better method.

@sprooschicken
My post was not trolling because I added a line of relavance after countering yours. Your most recent post was also trolling. You could PM that instead of posting it here where it is irrelevant.

Anyway, I like that idea of putting some army or national guard members there. Maybe hire some non-military to do it to create more jobs.

Thank you. I thought we were talking about ones that were in the process of crossing the border.

Is there something that could be done in it's place if this is what is being proposed.

Also I was wondering if we should also be discussing security along the US-Canada border and at US ports, not just Mexico, because these areas could also be problems.

OK? you question me i will answer, and your obviously new to this, so ill tell you that it says in the site rules that if you think someone is trolling or spamming never to tell them as it causes pointless arguments such as these, you are supposed to flag them, and then send a link to a moderator, never confront or question a troll or spammer

anyways if racial profiling works why not do it? however i do not think it does work

@sprooschicken
Thanks for the info.

Racial profiling discriminates against the legals based on how they look. If you were walking somewhere and a cop arrests you just because you forgot your wallet, wouldn't it seem unfair?

@indie55
I think that new law they proposed about just checking everyone that police pull over for a legal reason might work.

Not much is happening at the Canada border (the last time anything big went down on that one was in the days of Al Capone when people were smuggling liquor).

The ports may become problems in the future (some illegals traveled by boat north thru the ocean along the Cali coast).

For the ports and the Canadian border I was thinking more along the lines of securing them against terrorists rather than immigrants.

yes it would but these people aren't just walking down the street they are crossing (or attempting to) a border I doubt they will forget their passport, and if they did they would simply be turned away and not arrested

This is what I was talking about earlier. If they are crossing the border than they should be stopped. What EmperorPalpatine is talking about is racial profiling people who are already in the United States.

I see how it can be seen as racial profiling as only one race is being targeted for this. I also see that these people are the ones who are coming over.

Yes but it should be stopped anyway. If I lived in Arizona I would be very upset if my friend got arrested because we just happened to be speaking spanish and she didn't have a permit for it. Although checking those who've already broken the law sounds good to me. As long as everyone is treated fairly.

Sadly people are rarely treated fairly, especially post 9/11.
