Do you believe the US government is doing enough to defend the border to Mexico? Support your reasoning. What should be done? What shouldn't be done?

Basically I don't see what's wrong with letting immigrants come in.

Right. There are 150 million Mexicans. Different culture, different ideas [My meaning is, some just want jobs they don't want to be Americans or have any connection to the country]. There are many that aren't educated up to great standards. Many are also poor, and even if they enter the country, they can fill up poor jobs. There are places in Southern America where poor immigrants cannot find even the lowliest jobs. Now we have people on the streets.

Population control is an ongoing problem, look at Asia. Of course, Asia isn't nearly as modernized, that's true. Yet the idea still stands that having more people is not always better. America doesn't let random people in for reasons.

Also, the moat issue fails. Naval Mines go off when metallic, moving bodies [ships] hit them, not when a swimmers hand accidentally slaps them.
[Though, if there were a mine made for swimmers, the fish issue could be solved by putting human waste into the moat, which would cause a buildup of bacteria and take away all the oxygen thereby suffocating all of the fishies. Bwahahah]

Mines don't care who they kill.

Ah now we come to the horrible truth. Every solution will have it's downside. Especially when it comes to items that kill.
We could say there are mines there with signs; but not actually put them in. That could be a deterrent.
Anyways by law we would probably have to label where they are.

I don't think mines would work. Is there a downside to using National Guard who are on standby? Give them lots of armor and 'crowd deterrents' (tear gas, rubber bullets, flashbangs, sound cannons) instead of M16s as a primary weapon (maybe easily accessable, but not authorized unless a gang shoots first or something). This would limit deaths on both sides.

I like Palpatine's idea. INVADE THE RIO GRANDE.

NOT invade! Just have a 24/7 well-trained blockade. The soldiers guard in shifts so they are well-rested. Would this not work?

lolwut? Obviously they wouldnt be naval mines. No ships would be going in a newly dug moat. That other idea is kinda...... evil.
Palpatine's idea could work too though.

I think we can all agree that mines wouldn't really work. People would just throw in a lot of logs to blow up the mines if they work by hits. If they were on land, they'd use RC cars and follow a safe path when they find one.

I Live in Arizona and I believe that there are too many Mexicans that come across the border Illegally. They come across start fires (as if we don't have enough with fires in our state with the Wallow Fire) to distract border agents, and then they Hightail it on the Arizona Trail to Utah so that they don't get arrested and thrown back where they came from. But I personally think that we shouldn't be having this discussion because I do not know why the U.S would want this land from Mexico. We should never have bought it from them it's too **** hot in this State.

Well we could do what I said which was to just put signs up about mines. I don't think we actually could put mines on the border.

@CalvinKidd137
Technically we never bought it from Mexico; we bought it from France when it was actually still the property of Spain!

That sounds like an idea, but one desperate person would have their dog run in front of them and realize there were no mines.

America is in need of cheap workers. Even there is a work&travel branch from international students. If it doesnt suits USA's policy,it will go on like this.

I'm not really worried about the ones who come peacefully for work. It's the ones that smuggle guns and drugs that bother me. How to control them?

It was more as a deterrent for those who didn't want to chance it. And whose to say the dog wasn't really lucky.

Take them out militarily. It's not like they are going to stop if we politely ask them and they are a threat to national security. Some may not agree with the use of force, but whatever gets put in place to prevent them needs to be backed by force.

SC is now preparing to pass an immigrant law, similar to the AZ law, requiring all suspects in any crime (even traffic stops) to prove legal status.

Well then why did we buy it from Spain?
