Is it possible the United States of America could fall as a country? My classmates and history teacher were discussing/arguing about this. If it is possible list reasons why and support it.
If you call communism and puppet governments liberation then why not?
communism or not the countrys got liberated from nazi germany. the real hell called war was over. thats liberation. the kind of system that liberats doesn't matter. at that time people there where cheering for the russians.
Yes, because the Russians were so much better then the Nazi's, Stalin made Hitler look like an infant in comparison. In a communist system there is no opportunity for betterment, facing the same bleak existence day after day seems like death to me.

But Stalin was in power, and he was about as bad as Hitler. You can read about what happened after WWII was over here:
From the article, "After the capture of Berlin, Soviet troops reportedly ***** from tens of thousands to two million women" "According to recent figures, of an estimated four million POWs taken by the Soviets, including Germans, Japanese, Hungarians, Romanians and others, some 580,000 never returned, presumably victims of privation or the Gulags."
It is estimated that during his rule, about 20,000,000 in all were killed. It is estimated that about 500,000 were directly ordered by him.
And later, near his death, he claimed that Jewish doctors killed Soviet leaders so he could say all Jews deserve to die.
How is that so much better? They could've went back to the way they were before Germany invaded, but instead the USSR took over.
obviusly that you guys do not realize what war is realy like. communism is way way way better then war. war is like real hell. you can't compare anything to war.
if you have been in war. you will be happy to live in communism. well maybe not these days whit such advanced warfare that you barly see the enemy anyway. but ww2 was not like that. ww2 was not like send out 500 precision bombs. more like send out 500.000 carpet bombs.
and if you still don't get it. then your retarted and ignorand.
people were happy whit russia when they liberated them from war.
Partydevil is right. War is worse. My opinion, though. Except, he's wrong in one aspect. I still think he's right about what other people felt regarding liberation.
After Germany invaded Eastern Europe, they just left men there. The armies brought down there guns and people hoped to not get shot. It wasn't a war atmosphere, it was one of militant possession, that's all.
My guess is, upon liberation, most of Eastern Europe was happy to be on the winning side. Furthermore, Marxism was a popular thought in the day, seeing as much of Europe was leaning towards the fascist side in the era. So it might have been true. I've read that some people say Communism wasn't too bad when it started. I mean, you're part of the second largest superpower in the world.
It's just that Russia's system was one based on neglect and no economic self sufficiency, and therefore, it failed. So I'm sure as time passed, these people got mad. I'm sure some may have expected to stay conquered, since, that is pretty much the history of Eastern Europe, but none thought of being accepted into a new Union as a puppet state that received neglect and stupid government.

That's not the culture of war, that happened after VE Day. Last time I checked European and American soldiers weren't raping women in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I agree that it is possible that war is worse, however I doubt there is anyone on this site that grew up in East Germany or anyone of the Eastern Bloc nations therefore they can't say what was worse living with the Nazi occupation, or the Soviet occupation.

Do not call someone 'retarded' or 'ignorant' when you cannot spell either of the two words. Disregarding that there is absolutely no need to insult people in a debate.

Yep. All Germany would do to win a nation's land was flash their full force for a few hours, call up that nation's leader and start negotiations that sounded reminiscent of that line in the Godfather, "Luca Brasi held a gun to his head, and my father assured him that either his brains or his signature would be on the contract." Once they had ownership, they'd leave some troops to keep order, and move on to the next one.

Yep again. They felt great at first then they realized what you stated in your quote below and many were willing to die to help free their country:

Hungary revolted with hope that the US would help them be free of Soviet control. However, our policy to communism was of containment, not liberation.
The Polish weren't too happy about their new government either.
East Germany was quite upset as well.
Millions fled East Germany to go to West Germany, few did it the other way around.
Many died trying to escape.
communism is way way way better then war.
Would you rather die randomly with a fighting chance against an enemy, or be killed systematically by the unchecked oppression of your own government?
The only way the US is going to fall any time soon is if either our national debt does us in (however that works, I haven't a clue, but it's usually bad when a household defaults on everything, so I can't imagine how bad it'd be for that to happen to an entire nation) or some idiot starts a nuclear holocaust and owns the planet. Really, our only weakness is that huge multi-trillion-dollar debt we've got going on.
@ArchlordPie Thanks for getting us back on topic. You're right about how the debt works. The US government a little while ago was like a family man with a decent income. He bought a 50cal (started war on terror) with his extra cash and was out of money. Instead of asking for a raise (increase taxes), or cutting back in other areas of his budget, he decided to go to the bank (China) for money to buy expensive explosive bullets. After he got the loan he decided to shoot all his bullets at the local firing range (middle east) to test his aim. He wasn't a very good shot (terror threat still exists) so he asked the bank for more money. They saw that he still has a decent-paying job and agreed again. Then he got a huge pay cut (recession/depression). He still bought and fired his shots again and his aim improved (Bin Laden killed). But now he's has almost no income and wants more money. That's where the US is right now. If the economy dosen't turn around soon, China will "forclose" on US property.
That's not the culture of war, that happened after VE Day.
Sorry, WWII and before, mostly international. Better?
Would you rather die randomly with a fighting chance against an enemy, or be killed systematically by the unchecked oppression of your own government?
Well, the idea was communism. In itself, it won't lead you to be killed systematically by oppression. [Which of course wasn't the case, but I didn't know what you were referring to].
China will "forclose" on US property.
That's what I don't follow. What happens if we default?
There is a rather massive gap between microeconomics and macroeconomics, however since I'm not a student of economics, I can't properly refute your metaphor. So assuming that China does 'foreclose' on the US, the US has assets in the case of all the countries that it has helped or lent money to.
So assuming that China does 'foreclose' on the US, the US has assets in the case of all the countries that it has helped or lent money to.
Well, China's going to want their money back one way or another. They might threaten to go to war if they don't get it back, but if it comes to that, nukes will probably fly.
One of the reasons that we're in debt that's not entirely the government's fault is that ordinary people started buying things on credit. Remember the Great Depression? That was caused mainly by overspending with credit and because people bought stocks on the margin (the person pays a % of the stock and the rest is covered by a brokerage loan, but that coverage in the '20s was sometimes 90% [you could buy a $100 stock with $10], so the people who put all their money into stocks, which was a lot of people, were unable repay the loan when the market dropped). People who use credit cards and are only able to make minimum payments are doing the same thing. If anything happens to their source of income, they go into massive debt which sends a microscopic economic shockwave thru the nation. When more people go into debt like that, the shockwave grows. When almost everyone's doing it like in the '20s, it's like an economic earthquake.
He's right about that. You can't buy a stock cheaply and hope that the market will rise to save you, because one day it will drop and you'll be screwed.
The only issue is to find out how to handle credit adequately.
Yet, does the US lose anything? If we default on our loans and all our debt goes away, that means less taxes and the govt has a bigger budget and all we have to do is make anti-nuke preparations
The only issue is to find out how to handle credit adequately.
it's simple. do not use credit cards. but use debit cards. spend the money that you got from work. do not spend your money befor you have worked for it.
I think that it is very possible one of the easiest ways would be a Economic Down fall. I mean How many trillion dollars are we in debt? Also If this did happen the govermen would have to cut a lot of costs posibly being the milatary and if this happend I would not be suprised if another country tried to attack us.
