Is it possible the United States of America could fall as a country? My classmates and history teacher were discussing/arguing about this. If it is possible list reasons why and support it.
Trade can be made possible, mind you this is something I put together in the 30 seconds it took me to write my post.
Such behavior is one of the reasons I am against political parties, I have nothing against people uniting in their beliefs, but the Democrats and Republican's have been present for so long that their members are no longer able to distinguish between their personal and the party's view. To side with a group that wields such massive influence you must be educated on all the minute details of their platform and the far reaching effects that your decision will have.
It never matters much to be. I'd call myself a democrat but I have my limits towards gay rights and homosexuality, yet in terms of economics I am against the Republican agenda. If someone were to ask me where I lean, I would not say I'm a Democrat because I like them/people I know are Democrats, I would look at all of my beliefs and see with which side I lean the most [Excluding all those tiny parties that will never show their faces in presidential form] I'm fine with the parties, I just wish there weren't morons that were too lazy to be informed on an issue, so instead, to sound politically stable, they decide to become loyal doggie hounds for the party they picked. I think some people just don't understand what they're doing when they are voting. Some people are sad when they see that only 50% of the population votes. Personally, I never mind. If the people don't care, then they probably don't know the value of democracy or they are idiots. If idiots are voting, maybe they'll see their idiot friends and decide not to.
Well it wouldn't surprise me, what gets people to vote rather than the candidates platform is his/her charisma. Or in the case of the '08 election, race. I think it was 16% more voters voted that year than any other year, and I have no doubt it was simply so that person could say, "I voted the first black president into office." or "I tried to prevent the first black president."
If the people don't care, then they probably don't know the value of democracy or they are idiots.
Well, for president at least, the popular vote is just for show.
what gets people to vote rather than the candidates platform is his/her charisma.
That's how Kennedy won. He looked better on camera (wore makeup and was well rested) than Nixon (refused makeup, distrusted TV as a useless novelty, had the flu, and was very tired with a weak voice) during the Presidential Debate.
Right, after their debate the people listening on the radio thought that Nixon had come out ahead, while those watching thought Kennedy had the upper hand.
The popular vote while seemingly useless does go a ways to guide how the electoral votes of the state go. It is meant as a countermeasure to the efforts of the uneducated voters. Of course it also gives birth to many conspiracy theories.
