I am not ashamed to admit two things about my life. One, I am a Christian. Second, I am bisexual. I am a Libertarian at heart, and I believe in equal social rights for all.

I have heard church propaganda over and over again about how it is immoral to be gay, or to engage in any homosexual activity. The pastor at the Lutheran church that I used to go to has said, "Gays are immoral and will burn in hell." Most right-wing "Christians" will say the same thing. In high school, I fell into the same trap. I tried to repress those homosexual desires. I spoke out about immoral the gays were, and that the government should only be filled with Christians who would create a perfect Christian society.

It was my first year of college that I finally stopped fooling myself. I had repressed my desires for nearly 3 years. It is time for right-wing "Christian" politicians to accept that homosexuality is a biological function. There is no choice in sexuality. If sexuality is a choice, can straight people change to being gay? No! So why do anti-gay groups think gays can become straight? There is no 'on/off' switch that can be flipped to change sexuality.

What these anti-gay groups should be focusing on is not gays. I donât know the exact figures, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of references to helping the poor in the Bible, while there are a dozen or so references condemning homosexuality. A real Christian would not spend his/her time condemning homosexuals; instead they should help the poor, needy, and less-fortunate.

@ redbedhead

One, you don't know me at all. When you say "Being a homosexual is something you decide, theres nothing that MAKES you be homesexual" you are wrong! If that is so, did you decide to be straight? No, you didn't. You were born that way. Being attracted to the same sex is not a choice, just like being attracted to the opposite sex is not a choice.

Christianity is looked down upon heavily because of people like you. Many friends of mine refuse to go back to church because of intolerant and ignorant fools like you. If these so called Christians would treat everyone with respect, so many kids would not avoid church. Instead, there are so many jerks like you, Christianity is seen in a negative light, and many people do not want to be associated with it.

well it is true that people have equal rights, the christians trying to make the world a christian society is a bad idea, for one thing we would all just be abunch of robots walking around praising god. i have actuly have been bi-curious for quiet a while, and the 2 or 3 gay people in my town take soooo much crap from christians every day

I am literally afraid to come out and admit my bisexuality. I only do so on the internet where no one knows who I am. At college, I see how the gays are treated. On the "Day of Silence" to promote gay rights, so many people walked by the protesters screaming gay slurs. The intolerance is staggering. And my home town is one of the most historically conservative areas in the US. My parents would disown me if I ever admitted to being bisexual. It is because of religious intolerance that I am afraid. Most of those who bash gays, disown their children, or oppress gays, are all right-wing Christians. No one should live in fear. Yet religious nuts make me live in fear.

redbedhead is right on some points. Christianity has the most proof of jesus's existence than any other religion in the world. also the bible does state that homosexuality is a perversion and a blasphemy against god. but you have to remember the ten commandments and the words of jesus himself. plus i don't mean to be brutal or anything but sinners, like gays will literally burn in hell. but we should try to save them from that. violence and hatred is not the answer in order to solve the homosexual "conundrum" so to speak.

@Ricador: you are right, He didn't ever intend for this to happen, but he knew it would occur.

@kanethebrain: in case you haven't noticed society is completely to blame for people becoming gay. look around you... the commercials on the TV portray men as stupid individuals who don't have a clue, plus on almost any "reality" tv show theres always some gay guy or lesbian couple. its everywhere, the media practically glorifies it. then theres the "metro-sexual lifestyle" where people don't actually like men but they just act like them for what... oh wait, thats right... for fun. its pathetic and it needs to stop. the kids will see these things as young age and think its okay to be like that, and as they grow older they begin to think like that, and sooner or later...TA-DA! another gay or lesbian.

@TenaciousC

So you say the media makes people gay. By that logic, sports made me bisexual. All I watch on TV is sports. I have never seen Queer Eye, or any other show with gay couples.

And if you think the media glorifies gays, look at how much it also glorifies "straightness." The conservative media groups bash gays and rip them non-stop. Which side is worse, the intolerant conservatives, or the tolerant "immoral" gays?

@thelistman and daswiftarrow: Be strong. I know it can be hard to be out of the closet, and if there threats of violence against against gays where you live, I can't blame you for not wanting to come out. One of my former roommates is gay, and I remember coming out was the hardest thing he ever did. I lived with him, and we had vandals and hatemongers coming to our house. He had slurs yelled at him frequently. And we lived in Atlanta, which has the largest population of gay men and women in the world! (San Francisco and Key West have larger per capita populations, but not absolute populations).

@TenaciousC: I don't think anyone can or should deny that Jesus existed; I just don't think he was the son of god (probably because I don't think there is such a thing as a god ). However, I wouldn't say that Christianity has the MOST evidence that it's founder existed. Islam has many more records of Mohamed existing. Buddhism has many contemporary accounts of Siddhartha Gautuma before he became the first Buddha. Josepth Smith was certainly a historical figure before and after he founded Mormonism.

Also, you have your causation backwards. The reason there are gay characters in entertainment is because more gays have come out of the closet, and the producers want to pander to that market. The media doesn't always glorify the gay lifestyle either; I've seen Brokeback Mountain and if anything it made me glad I wasn't gay, because I wouldn't want to deal with getting fired, killed, and ostracized for my orientation. Homosexuality existed long before the media; the word lesbian comes from the name of the Greek island Lesbos, where there was a colony of gay women that lived there. The ancient Greeks as a whole were open about Homosexuality, with male-male relationships being common.

Homosexuality is not a choice any more than Heterosexuality. It has a medical background. While there are many gays that lead happy lives, none of them chose the discrimination and hate that is levied their way for no reason

There is something wrong when people have enough time on their hands to care about who other people feel "attracted" to...

surely there are other things that they could be doing? I mean, who cares? let people live their life the way they want

There are too many logical fallacies that the proclaimed Christians are making in this topic that it is making me very, very sad and angry. I could leave a long post to dispute them, but it's been done in our already-existent Homosexuality topic.

So, @thelistman, don't let anyone get you down. Being gay is hard because there are so many ignorant and judgmental people out there. So, just keep this in mind - it's my favorite quote on the matter:

"Is God judging me for loving, or you for hating?"

It says it all...

apart from Christian view towards gays there is the view of nature: all animals were created to mate male with female so why go against it? why do humans, the beings at the top of the food chain, go against nature, the way we were created to mate. male and female produce offspring, guy and guy or women and women doesn't, its stupid to go against nature.
