I perfer to not use mechanical pencils. The wooden ones just feel "right" to me.

What I want to know is: "Why does any one care about pencil brands at all?"

Mechanical pencils are neat
because you only have to
purchase lead for 'em
so I choose those
although I did like
the normal wooden
pencils several years ago

The other 3/4 is how good the actual machine is.

I don't use pencil sharpening machines, if that's where you're going. I like using knives and plain old sharpeners.

Mechanical pencils don't feel right to be honest, but I just use whatever is available.

Why do we care about the brands of food we buy?

They sure can break easier, that's a downside in mechanical pencils.

I tend to waste my Mechs on the useless everyday writings and save my Tic for tests.

Lol, learn how to not lose your pencil. I had to at some point. It also took me a while to perfect my pencil sharpening technique.

1) I plan to try hard to not lose them as often. Eventually.
2) I've perfected sharpening pencils... on pencil sharpeners that work.

I'm a HB/2B myself

Hmm...

The same thing still applies, albeit in a more archaic sense.

It does. I think I better way to emphasize my point to idontsuckthatmuch is that he should try to not press his pencil down too hard onto the paper.

I've broken many a pencil this way. It's annoying.

Yeah. That used to be my case too. These days, it almost never happens. I have a lot more control over my hands.

I prefer mechanical pencils over regular ones. These are the pros and cons of each type of pencil as far as I know:

Regular Pencil:

Pros:
-Tends to be harder to break
-You can write harder with these pencils

Cons:
-Harder to sharpen (mechanical pencils simply have either a button or a twisty thing to sharpen the pencil)
-Tends to require specific positioning to work
-Writing is uncomfortable

Mechanical Pencil:

Pros:
-Easy to sharpen
-Can work in any position
-Writing is more comfortable

Cons:
-Easier to break
-You can't write as heavy with mechanical pencils

Based on these pros and cons, I think the mechanical pencil is better except when you need to write heavy (the mechanical pencil can handle normal writing). Also, I think I only go through a few pencils every year (sometimes I lose a pencil, sometimes it runs out of lead).

I've actually had none of those problems.

I usually go through a dozen or so. Lead gets used up often.

My school isn't known for the highest-quality pencil sharpeners... But otherwise, that's a fine idea.

If you can, use your own pencil sharpeners. Hmm... I don't know if I should feel good that I never have problems with sharpening pencils.

I bet you've been using .7 lead. If you use .9 or thicker, it almost never breaks, just like normal pencils.

If you write hard like a maniac it'll still break. I had force myself to write lightly.

I use pen more often than not so it's a moot point in most cases. However when the opportunity arises, usually science or math, I use a Ticonderoga, however my pencil never seems to stay sharp for more than a few lines which results in my notes starting out neat and turning into a scrawled mess at the end.

I always fill my notebooks with hastily scrawled writing.. Though really, when I use pencils the sharpness of the point isn't that much of an issue until the lead is worn quite a lot, in fact close to the point of needing to be resharpened.
