Good as long as it's well-kept so things like Chernobyl don't happen.

well nuclear power does lead to nuclear waste. And that stays around for a long time. If something could be done about the waste then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

well you could put the waste in side barrels and stock them inside empty salt mines...let them sit for a couple thousands years... or... in the central united stats make a facility with a 15 mile radius of nthing and keep it there

Perhaps find a green way to launch it into space to crash into the sun or something?

Well maybe. But it's way too dangerous. If something went wrong we'd have nuclear waste in our atmosphere.

People have a negative view about Nuclear Powerplants because it is dangerous when something goes horribly wrong. But don't the other ways of getting fuel and electricity go horribly wrong and cause devastation as well? Of course! They'd be more believable if they said it is such a hassle to clean up and the effects linger for many, many years. Aside from catastrophe, nuclear powerplants are marvelous. I vote for building more, actually--I also, however, vote for more frequent checkups of said powerplants, same as how food health inspectors check up on restaurants on a consistent basis.

On the subject of cleaning up the waste, this may help answer some questions and guesses. This is from May of 08, though, so I wouldn't take this as the most-recent discovery.

Nuclear power is both good and bad. It produces waste, but, that can just be buried really far away in a desert or something and then no one will care. As for launching it into space, that's very costly and not a viable option. I think they are good to have around, but there needs to be a way to shut them down instantly so that even in a case like what happened in Japan, they can all be turned off.

It will be nice when nuke power becomes more practical and mainstream. It just needs more safety precautions.

this may help answer some questions and guesses.

I couldn't help but notice the Exit Path guy on the Toxic Barrel image lol.
