Firefox is still very gluttonous in terms of memory.
I believe they fixed that with Firefox 7.
Despite its dull, buggy unbalanced nature IE remains one of the most popular browser in the world.
Probably because it comes with most computers and people don't bother changing. I know I didn't, I kept it for about two months before a friend told me about other web browsers. That was before I noticed how better others were and all the pros of the others.
I've been a web developer for over 10 years and I've never met anyone in my field that has a good thing to say about IE. For development purposes I have the following browsers installed, Avant 2011, Avant 2010, IE 8, Chrome 13, Firefox 3, Opera 10.5, Opera 11 and Safari 5.33. With that said I use many different browsers on a daily basis and from an overall viewing standpoint Chrome is the best with Firefox a close second. If you ever plan on programming anything web-based you will soon see how horrible IE really is.
Between Mozilla and I.E. Mozilla all the way. Between Chrome, Mozilla, Opera, and I.E. 1. Chrome 2. Opera 3. Firefox I haven't used I.E. Since 2005. I hated it then so I'm sure I'll hate it now.
