Hey guys I saw posts that said ask an atheist, ask a muslim, ask a hindu, etc. but I didn't see one for Ask a Christian so I decided to start one. So like the topic says ask me something!
in the lds doctrine, we believe there is more than one planet with life on it (not the UFO stuff, but people like us, who believe in god as well). so my question to anybody who reads this, if we do discover life on other planets, and they are similar, will you become a member of the lds church, but if the life on the planet is not like ours, will you become an atheist? I ask this because god created us in his image and those beings aren't in his image. bear in mind, this is completely hypothetical.
No, but if we found a completely alien species with the exact same religion it would give a bit more weight to that religions validity.
Why is it that Christians always feel a need to convert people to Christianity? Why can they not accept that some people will not convert and then they just keep pestering them?
the exact quote came from Moses: chapter one: verses 27-29 in the pearl of great price. it says:
27 And it came to pass, as the voice was still speaking, Moses cast his eyes and beheld the earth, yea, even all of it; and there was not a particle of it which he did not behold, discerning it by the Spirit of God.
28 And he beheld also the inhabitants thereof, and there was not a soul which he beheld not; and he discerned them by the Spirit of God; and their numbers were great, even numberless as the sand upon the sea shore.
29 And he beheld many lands; and each land was called earth, and there were inhabitants on the face thereof.
Why is it that Christians always feel a need to convert people to Christianity? Why can they not accept that some people will not convert and then they just keep pestering them?
Well for some it's just a mindless reaction to an interpretation in the Bible. Others it would be like you pestering someone to get out of the road because you thought they would get hit by a truck if they didn't.
Okay, here is the thread that everyone has been talking about.
Now, as for Christianity...
I am an atheist. I think I said that in the Christianity FTW thread, but I'm not sure. So, I'll say it again, LOL.
I believe the Bible to be a flawed history book. It was written by man to try to keep order in a time where laws were not obeyed very well. It kept people in line and basically said, "You're not going to get into heaven if you do bad things."
There was a man named Jesus. That, I am sure of. But, Jesus was a very common name back then. But the Jesus in the Bible, he probably existed.
As for God, well, I don't know. The idea of an all-powerful being is a bit much for me. It just doesn't make sense to me that there could be an all-powerful being. But, I'm believing in something (that God doesn't exist) without any proof. So, yeah, you get the point.
Very good outlook blkasp. When you say meet other Christians, do you get the chance to talk to them? My local church is very stiff, it's more people who just want to show themselves.
Ah, that's quite sad. Reminds of when the rich men would put in their massive amount of money one coin by one coin to show off, then a poor woman came and put in a few coins, but she gave the most according to Jesus' standards.
Also, yeah, I get to talk to them and stuff, our Church has a mixed variety of ages and nationalites, and you can pretty much talk to anybody. (Eg, Even a Child -> Adult).
But, since the church I go to is in a small community and it has a congregation of about 70 people (give or take) many of us are quite close knit.
I also attend a Church youth group which about 20 people attend, I personally like smaller groups as I can talk to people more and actually know everybody. :P
Why is it that Christians always feel a need to convert people to Christianity? Why can they not accept that some people will not convert and then they just keep pestering them?
Why is it that you make that assumption? I don't feel a need to convert people, regardless of what the Bible says. I believe people should be free to be themselves and make their own choices. If they can accept and respect my life choices, i'll do the same back.
Besides Biblical content (ie. God, angels, demons, etc.) is there anything else that you just accept based on belief alone?
Love?
1. Is Jesus God, or the Son of God? 2. Is the Holy Spirit God? 3. Is Jesus the Holy Spirit?
The Christian doctrine of the Trinity defines God as three divine persons (Greek: á½'ÏοÏÏάÏειÏ)[1] â" Father, Son, and Holy Spirit â" distinctly coexisting in unity as co-equal, co-eternal, and consubstantial (Greek: á½Î¼Î¿Î¿ÏÏιοι, or of one being (Greek: οá½Ïία.[2] The Trinity itself is considered to be a mystery of Christian faith.[3]Wiki.
It depends on what way you interpret it. Technically there's God, Jesus is the Son of God and the Holy spirit is a separate entity. However all three are one. Separate but one? Yeah, i know it's hard to understand.
