Hey, guys. I don't know if there is an "official thread" for metal, so,
here's one where you can talk about your favorite metal/punk/hard rock artists, music and albums. Have fun!

Oh, and please don't spam. Keep it metal, guys! : )

Death metal is the purest and most definite of the metal forms, although not the original. Does that mean it's the best? Heavens no, that's an opinion.

I guess you can say that partially. Venom one of the earliest death metal bands influenced the Big Four and countless other genres.

Not too many people around grasp the full scope of metal, as it's a rather deep genre. There are more sub-genres in metal than most other genres combined. Personally, I find myself attracted to death, thrash, and power metal more than others, though some black, doom, and classic/NWBHM can find itself into my ears.

Yep, agreed. Oh and Opeth isn't entirely death as you said, it's good that way.....

Which songs do you like by them? I like 2nd sucks and You Should Have Killed Me When You Had The Chance.

Most of them

The only one that I would consider metal is We Butter The Bread With Butter. Papa Roach and Yellowcard are more rock than metal, but I guess it depends on the songs...

Venom is thrash, plain and simple. They had a much greater influence on black metal, however, with Slayer, Death, and Possessed simultaneously influencing and morphing death in what it is now.

Oops, did I really write Death >< Sorry.

I find it quite sad that people these days can even consider these bands metal. WBTBWB might be, but Papa Roach has too much rap influence to be metal, Nickelback is Hard Rock, Yellowcard as metal? That got me laughing. They are pop punk/alternative rock, without a semblance of metal.

Try stuff like Dimmu Borgier, Pantera, Hammerfall. Now those are metal.

I don't give a **** what Silverstein is, they're the only band that keeps me awake when I write late at night (hey, that last line rhymes!)

I've always doubted the possibility that "metalheads" could ever get along... Everywhere I go on the Internet, people are always arguing over what genre of metal is the best.

Most metal fans I meet are far too sensitive, and I prefer to stay out of the community for that reason.

As for myself, well, my favorite types of metal are progressive and metalcore. I also like melodic death, to some extent.

Some of my favorite bands are Periphery, The Contortionist, and Betraying The Martyrs.

I'm not really a fan of doom or death. I dunno, I guess I just don't like the "heavier" stuff.

I think it's childish to say that one metal genre is better than the other. I like them all. In my opinion, I like light metal/heavy rock, like Priest, Metallica or Disturbed.

I think you're right, and I don't like a lot of the metal community for that reason.

I hate how people argue about how their metalcore of death metal etc. bands are more "brutal" than nu metal. Also my favorite metal bands are probably Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains, Metallica, and Iron Maiden.

Journey Into Fear (1987)

###
Nespithe: Only full length and a really original one. The main thing to highlight is Antti Boman's low vocals and the hilarious titles track.

Journey Into Fear: Important 80's Canadian heavy metal band (Anvil is not the only one). In 1984 changed their name from Death Dealer. Once the intro starts, pretty everything go faster without a rest (flirting with Speed Metal).
