Atheists: What is your motivation? People of other religions such as Catholicism, Islam, Judaism, etc. wish to convert people because those people would go to Hell otherwise. But atheists have no such motivation. If it's because you think their lives would be better if they did not have to pay the tithing, how do you know that they are happier trading a little bit of money for a sense of inner peace and security? Jews: I could be completely wrong on this, but isn't it against the rules for Jews to go out and try to convert others to Judaism? If I am right, then what are you doing if not trying to convert people? Christians and Muslims: I think you know that you cannot convert people or change their minds via the internet, so why do you debate?
It doesn't leave us along. Take a religion that doesn't really beat itself over your head and you will find it doesn't get debated much if at all. It's the one's trying to push itself on everyone that often get's debated because we are forced to have to interact with it then.

What do you mean? Do people threaten you with hell? Sorry, but I'm intrested. How often does this happen? Does it happen online too?

It happened 3 days ago that someone tried to preach their religion. Besides for that, it's true. How often do you debate about religions that don't effect the world as much as others? Debates on Buddhism, Judaism (not Israel), Hinduism, ect, are quite rare on this site.

...well, what else? I thought there was going to be a threat about hell. Not that I want that, its just that was what it sounded like you guys meant. I don't really see the problem with preaching. Does it bother you a lot? Does it insult you?
Why? They didn't force you to read the post, nor did they force you to take their side. If you're a democrat and someone tells you their republican views, it shouldn't bother you. Just accept it and move on.
EmperorPalpatine is right you dont have to read these posts. if someone were to tell you about their beleifs, witch happens very often in America, and you beleive in something other than they're beleif just be respectful to what they beleive in and move on.
Ah. Would it bother you if they prayed in public? Like, just one person?
Pray? Or preach? I'm fine with anyone praying where ever they like. I'm not fine with people preaching to everyone about why they're going to hell.
I can understand. But why do you care about their belifes?
I don't, i just care when they try to share their beliefs with those who don't want to be included.

To tell you the truce, this all comes down to my hatred of arrogance, where one side is so sure that they are right and that there is no possible way they are wrong, so they preach like it's a fact that we are all wrong no matter what.
Seriously if someone saying "Jesus loves you" makes you feel bad, maybe you really are too full of hate.

I'm referring to situations such as trying to get laws passed based on religion or trying to get religious ideologies into schools such as with creationism. On a more personal level I have been just walking down a sidewalk and had someone pull up next to me jump out to try and convert me in a similar way to people going door to door.
If religion faded into the shadows such as becoming a small minority like flat Earthers or stayed as just being an influence in one's own personal sphere there would likely not be much of any debate. For that matter the use of the word atheist would likely become archaic if that were to happen.

Well, that's not the point at all... People of ANY belief (Catholicism, Islam, Judaism, Atheism, to name a few, and it does apply to more than just religion) want to 'convert people' (a term that's not accurate at all, as people are not 'converted', they just realise something fits better in their own way to see reality) primarily because that particular belief gives them a sense of rightness in the universe (by answering metaphisical or ethical wonders), and sometimes a reason to fight for (which would give them certain support they need and can't find elsewhere). Shortly, the religion a particular believes in, makes that particular feel right in some way, and he/she would like other people to feel that 'right-in-some-way', so that everyone where closer to happiness (or whatever term your religion uses). People who believes one or other religion are NOT different, they're still human beings, and that's why you have to understand there's a connection between atheists and catholics, jewish, etc trying to convert people. Otherwise it's just plain discrimination.

Oh, okay. I see what you mean. Like how religions don't need to pay taxes and they interfere with the laws. I get that. It was especially a big problem before the Frenceh revolution. It bleed the lower class dry.
I only show my atheist side when overzealous people of religious faith try to convert me or try to push their beliefs on me. Other than that, I have no problems with religion and count amongst my friends a myriad of people with various faiths.
I debate religion because it passes time. Why do you debate the current Australian school system? Because improvements can be made on the current situation. I love answering rhetorical questions.
