If God were proven beyond any doubt, if God literally appeared out of the sky to all of the world to see and proclaimed him/her/itself to be God, would you accept it? Would you be able to toss your previous beliefs aside and accept the fact that there would be a God in your life?
Rereading IceClaw's statement that would mean God isn't a God at all. The most basic definition I can find for a god of any sort is a being that has supreme control over some aspect of reality. So if your claiming god (any god) is not a being of any sort or doesn't have supreme control over some aspect of reality, it's by definition not a god.
but seriously I don't think I could disbelieve something if it was PROVEN true. But with religion theres no proof, its been changed over time, and people don't apply logic to religion. Or I'd beg god to be 'merciful' like people say he is and let me have the one thing i "ray" for every night.
Just seeing him and he proclaims himself as God doesn't really mean he is God. Infact most people who see such miracles try to come up with an excuse "it was just a hollogram" or "it was a huge blimph that just looked like it was talking and we were just imagining things."

Your right it doesn't mean that he is just because he said so. However the way the OP put it the question of this claim would have been shown to be demonstrably true.
No, my skepticism is so great that even if a mysterious figure popped out of the sky proclaiming he's God I won't believe in it. It'll take more than that to convince me that religious texts are the truth.
Thats good of you nichodemus. it would be bad to just all of a sudden beleive everything we see. Even if I saw God, whom I beleive in, I would need to see proof of what he claimed. Like Jesus he made many miricles to prove he was God's son.

I find it interesting how you say it's good that we don't believe everything we see however you believe in something based on even less then that.

looking at a lot of your other quotes, this is a major case of hipocrisy that needs to be quelled. you just said you believe in him, but you will still cling to your "rationality" and ask god for proof. there is a book of mormon story about a guy who wanted proof that god existed. even though he got his proof, he made an excuse for it and asked for more. after enough times, god struck him dumb because he knew no matter what, the guy wouldn't believe anyway.

I don't mean to be blunt but that's all I need to say, I would probably accept it. I'm not one of those atheists that go round just making fun of believers, not many atheists do, in fact I envy you. I wish I could have that much faith in something.
