This is where difference of point of veiws becomes apparent cuz for lineage is just name.For us it is not just a name.Lineage comes important in case of inheritence.
It's the same for the Chinese here; it doesn't matter to me since I rank freedom and individual rights over such traditions. There's no way I can convince you on the matter; so now back to Sharia Law.

in political terms, we have trial by jury, opportunities here aren't determined by your lineage, and (thanks to us now having a black president) we are now more tolerant than ever. I made a joke out of the last part, but only a small percentage of the western world (the part that is already alienated) is intolerant.

it's true we did, which is why many americans are practicing political correctness in hopes of displacing that intolerance.
On a semi-related topic to the current discussion - what do people think about the whole petrol-bombing of a French magazine office after it printed an issue saying that the Prophet Muhammad was the editor in chief for the week?
Apparently the newspaper/magazine was meant as 'satire' but perhaps they should have been more considerate. Still - the retribution was seriously disproportionate.
And 'you people' (I like how you group us all together so I'm going to do it to you too) will have to learn to put up with things that upset you and that 'you' can't just go around setting fire to things that make you angry.
We dont disrespect other religions its a sin as per our religion and we expect to get same respect but if someone does is not give us that then we have every right to teach them a lesson.(As far as I think anyone who tries this thing is stupid and does not learn lesson frm history.)
And burning down buildings is your idea of proportionate retribution? You could protest, write lots of complaints, make your voices heard in a legal manner - illegal actions such as this only further the (stupid) ideas that all muslims are violent and uncivilized people.

as much as I dislike it, I agree with avorne on this one. christians, and jews have been insulted a lot over the past millenia, and we more or less put up with it. Islam has no right to attack something just because you perceive that same something didn't give you enough respect. modern day political correctness allows us, instead of acts of violence and vengeance, to sue people for discrimination.
such acts of violence is not justified today, and no ammount of doctrine, bias, or offense that was taken from the disrespect will justify burning down a building that could've killed many, and injured way more than that cartoon ever could've.

you didn't factor in how the world is unfair. when I say this, I really mean that nothing ever goes the way we want it. the fact that the extremists of your religion demand such respect even after doing such a harsh act just appals me.
