http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/18/world/asia/kim-jong-il-obit/index.html

It seems that Kim Jong Il has died, most likely leaving his son Kim Jong Un in charge of North Korea.

As this is a forum for discussion I was thinking we could talk about how this might effect the world and the foreign relations between North Korea and other countries.

I'm not really sure what to say about the topic, as I know little about Kim Jong Un or even if he really is in charge now. I would guess this could cause some problems, but as for the scope I couldn't say.

Just for curiosity, connect to google earth and ask to see Nk at night. It's impressive to see all the other countries full of lights and Nk almost totally in the dark. I'm writing from Italy, and to think that we risked the same sort of stalinistic communism gives me the creeps!

There is two ways it will go. His son will take over and do the same thing his father did being a communist.

Second way his son will take over but his son diagree's with his father's communist ways and decides to change the whole entire government. That could bring alot of anrgument with te governer's and general's who probably agree with Kim Jong II's communist government.

no one knows his sexuality, marital status, or even his age!

The latter two, ok, but his sexuality is seriously questioned?? lol...
He's most certainly male, as he looks like it and is referenced as such everywhere.

If you ask me, he's too young and inexperienced to resist the grasp of the generals; they probably already have him under their influence. Though I'm not sure that Un would have been so much different from his father anyway.

Yes but he might have a sense of respect for his people in his country and might decide to change the communist countries ways.

Glad he is burning up in hell right now. The world is now a better place without him.

The government needs him, at the very least as a figure head to keep the Kim propaganda machine going. Actual power is dissipated amongst a ruling circle close to him, which include his aunt, and his father's brother in law, since he has little political experience and acumen now.

Which, sorry for the dp, would likely mean that NK will not attempt to do anything rash now, since it has too grave an internal problem. Then again, nations have been known to shifting the simmering energies of sedition onto external battlefields; yet I doubt this, NK is not asinine enough to even attempt to attack the South, which has a much more formidable military. And to boot, the North has always benefited from its slick diplomatic game of cat-and-mouse, why would it want to give that up now?
