I know this could be a touchy subject, but I mean this thread to be more about learning about each other than anything else.
I'm English and I'm genuinely interested to learn of the racial stereotypes about the people I live and work around.
Please note, whilst I'm welcoming posts about racial stereotypes, I don't mean racial insults. For instance, a racial stereotype where I am is that those in the south of the USA tend to be less tolerant than those in the north. It isn't insulting, it is almost asking a question.
Fully appreciate that the mods may view this thread as a step too far.
I'm from London, and therefore believe that anyone who lives North of the M25 is a feckless unemployed industrial worker too busy drinking tetleys and beating his wife to bother contributing to society.
And I'm from Yorkshire where we view anyone further south than us as being snobbish, untrustworthy and greasy gits that don't care about anyone but themselves.
I've heard Americans are ignorant irish and scots have anger issues english are boring and power hungary. germans are tough and hard working. indians are coward too much of she lickers. Pakistanis are too brave for their own good(like never respecting authority). Bengalis are are coward alone and brave in a pack. Chinese are desciplened and hard working. World west to us is a gutter.(I am in KSA) World east to us is better than our west.
Indians or South Asians have a rather limited set of options:
One is either a terrorist, a doctor, a motel owner, or the owner of a convenience store. We are of course good at math. Ah and before I forget, we're all incredibly cheap.
Also, oriental asians, particularly women, tend to work in or own nail saloons, the men operate laundromats. And don't forget, anything from China is 100% lead.
Haha stereotypes are fun, for the naive, please remember that not one of those is actually fact. Unless I hate on something by chance.

Don't forget about being customer support for Microsoft.
The interesting thing about stereotypes is that they are all based on observation. Statistically speaking they are often accurate more often than not. This doesn't mean that they are good 'rules of thumb', but they are (or have been) useful to some degree.
Not necessarily. There are positive stereotypes as well as negative which most people are happy to accept.
For instance, one English stereotype is that we're all polite. That is so far from the truth it is unreal, but most English people would be happy to accept it as a stereotype simply because it makes them sound nicer than they really are.

We don't accept or reject the stereotype. It is forced upon us based on foreign perceptions. They think we're polite because we say our pleases and thank yous. They mistake simple cultural conditioning for genuine good mannered behaviour.

I am curious, what statistics do you have to back this claim up, and in what way do you believe stereotypes to be useful? In my opinion they do far more harm than good. I fail to see how lazy generlisations can do otherwise.
