"Hey moderator, you forgot to delete that post!" Hey, well guess what? JUST IGNORE IT.
Didn't you... Nevermind. Usually, if a moderator does not remove a post it might be: Not something that should be removed or evidence for later. They might not have come online, they might not have been doing mod stuff, stuff like that. But, in some cases, they actually forgot, because it wasn't particularly important. If it was just some short, stupid post and there is a much more pressing matter going on, a mod might overlook the other report, and then forget because of real life.
While a spam post might not be much, there could still be grounds for reminding the moderator, politely, that it needs to be deleted, and the user that posted it might need a talking to.
Ignoring just makes apathetic users on the one matter where we don't want them to show apathy.
"Oh, I'm reporting Cen because _____!" WELL GUESS WHAT? GROW UP YOU BABY
Saying someone will report someone else is a scare technique in any argument. If they use that in an argument with anyone, it means they have lost but they won't admit it. The sentence in itself is something to ignore. While the user that is getting reported might have been breaking the rules, the reporting user most likely has as well at that point, and might very well end up with the same punishment as the other.
"I don't know how to favorite a game" DOES IT REALLY MATTER?
Yes, it does. This is a gaming site, of course faving the games will be a big part of it. As I think Frank mentioned, it doesn't matter that people ask these questions. What matters is that they don't take a few minutes reading the stickies or being actually observant on the matter.
Considering the generation we are going through, the high techy ones that have grown up with a computer and all that, the tendency of not noticing key actions and information is what worries me.
Though that is more an observation on the users than on how AG should be - overrated.
"Can you add me as a friend?" NO I CANNOT, YOU FOREVER ALONE PERSON.
Some would consider such a request polite, instead of just adding them without a warning. I generally like when people come asking if they can add me (and if I want to add them), mainly because they are obviously trying to do their best in getting some properly earned friends here.
Adding someone and then stating they are their bff, even if the other person has no idea that one exist would be a matter of concern, but regular polite behaviour, not so much. The reply in all its caps and glory would, at least to me, be a matter of concern, and I believe anyone that would reply like that would find themselves to be more forever alone than anyone that asks if they can add someone.
"Why did you remove me as a friend?" YOU. . . ARE FOREVER ALONE.
Human nature. They want to know if they did something wrong, and they can't get an answer without asking.
Even if AG is not currently a socially based structure, if one of the people I talk to a lot, Strop, Zophia, if they remove me from their friends-list, I would want to know if there was any particular reason for that, or if they were just cleaning out or what not.
It seems like normal, if not particularly rational, behaviour.
hen, there's people who complain that they can't get enough AP. First of all, does it really matter? AP in reality means close to nothing
It's a build in response.
To some people AP mean achieving something. A bit like pageviews on dA, or exp in MMOs. It's a measure on how well you are doing, even if any vet can tell you they are kinda disrespecting you for earning 2k points in a day somehow. It's the same with pageviews, some people can look beyond them, some cannot. Some people in MMOs think they can tell others what to do because they have 20 max-levelled characters and so and so many veteran badges or achievements or awesome pets or whatever, and some can conclude that just because you have those characters or builds or pets, you can still be a ****** bag who should be ignored completely.
It's simple human behaviour, and while the more logical would be to ignore the point feature, most people are not able to, because then they "would not progress".
Then people complain that they don't like them. Then they complain that they should have seasonal armatars.
The seasonal armatars were a good way to make the community feel like a real community. People tried their best to make something for themselves and others, and it showed that the staff cared enough to actually let them use them as their armatars.
It had nothing but a positive effect on the site, and that is why people want them back. Especially when the beta doesn't seem to be in a process of finishing, the site keeps glitching and the games and servers break down almost on schedule.
As for the armatars, some people just want to be negative. Like me. It works well, since you then cannot get disappointed with stuff. Or perhaps they are just used to being able to pick their own avatar, and having to stick with certain armatars might not be their cuppa tea.
Especially with the whole moderator thing.
I think moderators might be the most underrated people on the entire site the moment they become moderators. Sure, people want to become moderators, and the moderator position is slightly overrated in itself, but this is why those people that hype it up doesn't become mods. Because they would crash and burn, horribly.
But it is fun and awesome to be a mod, obviously, otherwise no one would be a mod, there is just a lot more to it, especially if you are slightly neurotic like myself.
Is that why you like to delete comments on your profile?
Some just like to clean out their stuff. I think some considers it a good way to go "I don't care about points!" even if it isn't their points being deleted, and they would probably pull a hissy fit if someone else remove a large chunk of their AP, but that is just an observation.
Some people (like undeniable_fox) will try to get someone to tell them the minimum AP for the armatar they want.
Curiosity and not being used to the community. It's not a problem as long as they get to understand that we like to keep the armatars a secret (at least until AGv3...), and they will have to find out themselves. We have to keep the small happies around, after all.
ArmorGames3 is going to be more social oriented in the future
AND IT'S GOING TO SUCK!!
Ahem, I mean, it might give a horrible backlash, considering the somewhat humble and primitive surroundings we are currently in.
Anyway, to sum up:
It doesn't seem to me that AG is overrated. Rather, some of the users seem to be the issue in their behaviour, while some come from other sites where they are used to more, and suddenly have to adapt to the lack of, well, everything we have (while also getting used to a stricter rule set and policing force).
In that matter they might have overrated the site, but it is the same kind of overrating as going into a grocery shop and assuming there will be bananas, and the shop is out or doesn't actually carry bananas. They are used to something more and different that AG currently isn't.
From my observations, most new users, especially those who come from other sites, tend to underrate AG a lot after the dust has settled. They conclude they can't underline stuff, they can't post in all caps, they can't swear, plagiarise stuff and post advertisements without getting some dwarf or bunny rabbit breathing down their neck (after getting a ladder) about the rules.
And with the current culture and upbringing of many of the users, they won't react very well to any of this.
Anyway, enough on this, I have stuff to do.
