I remember the days when family, friends and neighbors used to stop by my house uninvited, and we'd let them in and we'd have a great time and stay up and party all night. Nowadays it's like: *Doorbell rings* "OMG! PANIC! HIDE UNDER THE COUCH AND BEHIND THE KITCHEN COUNTER! GET THE PHONE READY TO CALL 911! *Dad goes to look through the peep-hole and says:* "Oh, it's just the mailman with a package for us." Does that happen to anyone else? - I also remember the days when me and my neighborhood buddies (this was when I was like 10 years old or so) used to go all over the neighborhood with water-guns and squirt each other and have an awesome time independently. Then we'd go to the park and goof around and play tag, cops and robbers, and cowboys and indians. Nowadays... Kids put safety helmets on, and play on a swing-set in their fenced backyards with their siblings. Either that or they stay in their basements playing COD with their safety helmets still on. - So I work with these kids (6-10 years old) every other Tuesday, and to be honest, they are wimps. You know why? Because all these parents who fail at disciplining their kids. Nowadays it's "timeouts" and "ositive reinforcement" junk. Seriously, just watch supernanny, she never gives the kids spankings because that would be some kind of "child abuse." I remember whenever I did something bad, my parents immediately spanked me right on the butt. That's how discipline should be. Spankings have made me learn very well that what I did was wrong. And once I got spanked for doing something wrong, I never did that thing again because I didn't want to be spanked. Now about these kids I work with, they are a bunch of cry-babies. You know why? Because this is a generation of "timeouts." And the kids I work with are rude, disobedient and very rebellious. The little trolls are always untying my shoes, throwing crayons at me, stealing the snack food before it's snack time, flicking water at me when I take them to the bathroom. It's just ridiculous. - Bottom line: How and why did the world get so dangerous? And why are kids not being properly disciplined?
P.S. Even my little cousin (7 years old) screams his head off at the dentist's office because he's terrified of the tools. And he hardly ever brushes his teeth, so it's his own fault that he has to go to the dentist. I asked my parents if I was ever terrified of the dentist at that age, and they said that I wasn't... hmm... I wonder why...
When I lived in Germany, everybody respected their parents
*In a voice of awe:* Woooowwww. That sounds wonderful. I want to move to Germany. - For the rest of the first paragraph and the second paragraph: Why are teenagers rebellious and why do they go nuts when they are disciplined? Because they weren't disciplined properly as a child. And that is what is still going on in today's world. The kids I work with are incredibly spoiled and rebellious.
If people keep disrespecting their parents and lashing out on people, their siblings will copy that thinking its cool.
Aha! I've seen this happen directly with the kids I work with. One kid (10 years old) has two little brothers (7 and 5 years old). The oldest was playing me at air-hockey. Then he told his two little brothers to punch me, so that he could gain an advantage in the game. And I was in total shock when the siblings actually obeyed the whims of their older brother.
Another bad thing is most teenagers think they're old enough to do whatever they want and go against their parents 90% of the time.
Because they weren't properly disciplined as kids...
My sister does absolutely nothing and when you ask her to do something, she starts screaming and crying. However, my mom likes to play favorites, so if you try to discipline her by turning off the computer, I'll be the one to get in trouble.
That's the exact same thing for me. Except for my little brother.
TL;DR
I'm not exactly sure what that means...
I think the world is dangerous now because of ungrateful and rebellious teenagers. The reason why they're rebellious is because of parents too dumb to realize that their children are doing bad things at young ages, and the kids carry that out through their life to the point of no return. I think people are "ansies" because they're the respectful people trying to avoid the villains that think they can do anything. Another problem is physical discipline being "child abuse", while if you take a phone or computer away, the children are probably obsessed with it and grow to hate you.
Now that is what needs to be shouted from the tops of buildings.
Eh, I don't really leave the house or like interacting with other people, so I can't really speak about what other teenagers are like - but I for one was never physically punished as a child and only received minimal discipline, but that was because I was actually well-behaved, I never complained or rebelled or argued with my parents. I think that it's a matter of treating kids like they're actual people and not just like they're idiots. Kids should be punished when they do something wrong and told what they're being punished for - and they shouldn't be rewarded for every single good thing they do or they'll come to expect rewards for good behaviour, which is something that's only minimally applied in the teenage and adult world, you ain't gonna get a cookie every time you meet a project deadline in the workplace.
See all individuals here are obviously from a very westernised background, if you go to a country in the southern hemisphere you will see a whole different method of disciplining and teaching ( I know this because my parents employ such, as some would dub, brutal methods) So the phrase 'The world has gone wimpy' is incorrect and based entirely on opinion and what has been seen on a small scale ( population of 100,000 would be considered small for social issues as this)
Not exactly. I'm more of a professional baby-sitter.
but I for one was never physically punished as a child and only received minimal discipline, but that was because I was actually well-behaved, I never complained or rebelled or argued with my parents.
Well... You were just a little angel weren't you?
Kids should be punished when they do something wrong
How, in your opinion, do you think they should be punished?
you ain't gonna get a cookie every time you meet a project deadline in the workplace.
Heh heh. True dat.

Indeed I was, I have the school reports to corroborate my story, I'll show you them some time if you'd like. Anyway, I never really did get around to giving a point to what I said, so... I dunno - maybe different methods of raising children are needed to raise individuals and what works for one child might not work for another. That's why shows such as Supernanny are bad as they seek to standardize parenthood and give everyone a set method of raising their child that might be far less effective than how the parents would otherwise have raised their child.
How, in your opinion, do you think they should be punished?
That depends very much on the individual child, really, and the severity of their misdeed. Just as in a legal system, it's important to take into account the individual and the punishment that would most suit them and be likely to prevent re-offending, there can't just be a 'one size fits all' solution.
I totally agree, man, because I work with kids too and I'm totally experienced with the ways of the world. If it were up to me I'd put whiskey in their milk and wrap them in the American Flag when they go to sleep! Toughen those little *****-*** Commies up! MURRICA

Yes, a water gun fight, tag, and cops and robbers are dangerous, manly things.
*tag* OH MY GOD YOU COULD HAVE HURT ME
So I work with these kids (6-10 years old) every other Tuesday, and to be honest, they are wimps. You know why? Because all these parents who fail at disciplining their kids. Nowadays it's "timeouts" and "ositive reinforcement" junk.
You with your 16 years of knowledge have so much experience with changes in society.
Seriously, just watch supernanny, she never gives the kids spankings because that would be some kind of "child abuse." I remember whenever I did something bad, my parents immediately spanked me right on the butt. That's how discipline should be[
Oh, sorry. I didn't know because you were raised one way, that that is the only and best way to be raised. See, I thought it was an opinion thing.
Because this is a generation of "timeouts."
Just making sure, are you 16? Your profile said that a while ago. If this is the case, you are part of the generation you are criticizing.
P.S. Even my little cousin (7 years old) screams his head off at the dentist's office because he's terrified of the tools. You've used what is called the "Correlation Does not Imply Causation" fallacy. You're assuming that because two things are connected in some way, that one caused the other. I wasn't terrified of the dentist at that age, nor my five siblings, and none of use were raised with the methods you described.
killersup was spanked, disaplined, never played COD or anything like that, yet killersup is still rebelious, and a teenager.thats the way it has been and it will always be.some places are different but here and 97& of the places teenagers are rebelious.losing respect for the ones that they used to respect the most.
I'd like to add that it appalls me what these kids are afraid of these days. The dark, forests at midnight, heights, rats, existential turmoil, car engines, popcorn, soggy cereal . . . it's horrible. Uncle Sam would be pissed the hell off.
Now it seems like the Master is being hypocritical when he says Alt's post was swag. However a strong reader will detect a hint of irony and realize that the Master actually means to imply that such a view would be reverse-swag. Alt seeks to liken the OP to the sort of closed-minded superiority and entitlement associated with extreme patriotism. This is a good move, because the OP is, by all reasonable accounts, laughably poorly argued.

Alright. Let's assume a child hits their sibling after you immediately and directly tell them not to. What should the child's punishment be?
I totally agree, man,
Yes! I love it when people agree with me! Especially high-ranked people XD
If it were up to me I'd put whiskey in their milk and wrap them in the American Flag when they go to sleep!
If it were up to me, I'd take them out to the wood shed and give 'em what fer. Of course, I wouldn't do anything to make them bleed or give them large bruises, but spankings are still called for.
I notice that people cry over the dumbest things. "My mom took away my cell phone OMG", or some nonsense like that. Then after something like that, they become rebellious and evil towards everybody acting as if its our fault for them losing their cell phone.
Yeah, sometimes people just need to shut up and take a hit... I mean really.
Alright. Let's assume a child hits their sibling after you immediately and directly tell them not to. What should the child's punishment be?
A bollocking for disobeying orders and a good ol' fashioned removal of toy and TV privileges for the rest of the day maybe? Or making them apologize to their sibling and then sending them off to their room? Really, it all depends on the child, whether they're more likely to understand the firm approach that involves shouting and a harsh punishment or the lighter-handed 'make up for what you did' approach that finishes with a softer punishment for behaving badly in the first place.
Yeah. That too. Also, there should be no height limit on roller coasters.
Yeah man. I don't know anything about the physics of rollercoasters either and I totally agree.
Popcorn. Popcorn is the most hideous abomination of food known to man-kind. It's disgusting stench wreaks throughout the whole room.
Another small thing I hate (I know this is food too, but some food is just makes me want to barf my intestines out) is soggy cereal. It's so nasty when people eat their cereal too slow and let it get soggy.
