Is the world too overpopulated? I was thinking and that may be the reason food prices may be rising and will continue to rise.

i guess when we let alot of kids die then people will less easy make new children. lowering the birth rate.

Disagree. Because infant mortality is so high, the people keep reproducing, to carry on the family line. If you lower the mortality rate, and introduce birth controls, then can we solve the problem.

While this might be an extreme way to control population, I would favor a modeling of the Chinese and their law, except allow two children, which is the equilibrium birth rate.

i would do the same thing but 3 children because otherwise the population will decline..

Hmmmmmmmm. The only way that the population could go down is a war, but then you'd have so many problems. Tut tut tut. Stupid humans. Birth control merely slows it down a tiny bit. But what happens when those kids grow up? The problem is that we have learned how keep our children and elderly alive for longer. Normally, a kid in his/her first year would often die, but now it's not the case. Too smart for our own good.

Isn't that the idea? Growth isn't wanted and we can't sustain the current population forever.

Nah we can't solve the problems with laws.

Pretty sure we can. China says you can only have one child otherwise you get fined.

Disagree. Two will most certainly lead to an overall decline, since not everyone will reproduce, and there will almost certainly be cases of infant mortality or people not reaching reproductive age.

The replacement rate, which means that the world population will cap off but maintain itself varies from place to place and is not simply just two. In fact, the replacement rate is 2.1 in developed countries, and hovering near 3.0 in less developed nations, giving a global average of 2.33.

and china now has dicovered the problem that it causes.
that the newer generations are not able to earn enoufg money for the retirment of the older generations. china may not in debt like usa and europe. but they do face other financial crises in the future.

and they know they will so they are now already starting to find a way for that not to happen.
and they might be able to do so. but when a country(s) like usa and europe are going to try the same. they will face even bigger problems because they simply don't have the money to do such things as china is able to do.

Well, eh, GO WAR!!! I'm not saying it's a good thing, not at all, but it could be the only way to tone down a bit. Either that, or mass executions.

I disagree, Flames. With that logic, where will the farms be? And, you know how everybody is obsessed with pumping water out of the ground? Tell me how the water will even get there if everyone is living everywhere ? I just outsmarted someone for once. Eh, no biggy... You probably just werent thinking of that.

Although I am unsure as to whether the world is overpopulated in terms of resources, I do think that people in developed nations are taking up more resources than necessary. We waste an amazing amount of food, water, and fossil fuels in the United States (I know some European Countries have really stepped-up and started being more Eco-friendly, but it has yet to take off on a large scale in the government in the U.S)
