Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland Gets a New Title

Today we wanted to share that we are renaming our recently released PC title Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland to a new permanent title, Don’t Escape: 4 Days to Survive. While we are in the process of changing the name, logos, and graphics on various storefronts, we also wanted to give a little insight into why this name-change is occurring. Please note that this change will be rolling out across all platforms and storefronts beginning today and may take some time to be properly reflected

A few days ago we got a message from the folks at inXile, a studio that has worked on several amazing titles (The Bard’s Tale, Wasteland 2) and who is now working on Wasteland 3. Armor Games Studios knows inXile well since our companies are minutes from each other. We have a relationship dating back to the early Flash days. “Wasteland” is a trademark they own and are actively building a game for, which is why they brought up their concern about Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland causing brand confusion.

While our games are very different (Don’t Escape is a pixelated, 2D, point-and-click survival game) we completely understood why they brought up their trademark. Here in the US our trademark law requires holders to actively defend their trademarks. Often this defense comes from a lawyer with a sternly written cease-and-desist letter, or worse, through direct litigation without ever picking up the phone. But inXile did the friendly thing by reaching out directly, having a quick chat, and being super-nice about everything. At the end of the day, inXile are game developers, and all the compassion and camaraderie from this community was embedded in how they approached us.

Scriptwelder (the sole developer of the Don’t Escape series) quickly arrived at Don’t Escape: 4 Days to Survive. As the publisher we also felt like it was a natural fit, so we are in the process of changing the name across all the storefronts we sell in.

So go buy our freshly renamed Don’t Escape: 4 Days to Survive on Steam, Kartridge, Humble, and GOG, currently for $14.99. As of this writing, it has 195 positive reviews (99%) on Steam.

The Don’t Escape series is created by Scriptwelder, a solo developer who made the original web game back in June 2013. It found success early on ArmorGames.com, seeing over 1.4m plays and thousands of positive reviews. Following two more web sequels (Don’t Escape 2 and Don’t Escape 3), Scriptwelder pursued a 4+ year development cycle to create Don’t Escape as a brand-new full-fledged PC title, released on March 11, 2019.
