"Virtual-Reality-Gaming has been around for a little over a decade," the reporter says, smile plastered on her cheery face, "but not in a way that the game company Fictusrem is now presenting it."
The reporter at the gaming convention goes on to explain that a new game was coming out- a fantasy mmorpg that allowed the player to embrace and explore a whole new world. To you this sounds like a great game, so you pre-order the console and the game.
You take it that you are very lucky- the game sells out only minutes after you purchase it. 25,000 copies sold in a matter of days. This game is called 'Brave Souls', and as you unwrap the console, hook it up, and then input the game into the headgear, you can't help but feel happy.
You turn on the game- and enter a vast world.....
But everything isn't as it seems.
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
Hello! Welcome to my first real attempt at a Forum Game. To save some confusion and perhaps some name-calling, this idea is not my own, but is based heavily off of an anime show called Sword Art Online. I highly recommend watching it, not only because it could give you a feel for this game, but because its a highly praised show; one that I personally really enjoyed.
But, if you don't want to watch it, that's fine, too. I will try to explain the concept quickly: A virtual reality game comes out, and once the player gets inside the game, there is no log-out option. They are told by the game's creator that they are trapped in the game and they are not allowed to leave until the players complete the 100th level of the game. There is a catch, and that is, if you die within the game, the headset will emit high frequency microwaves into your brain, killing you. Thus, this game just got a lot more serious.
If you want to play, then just post the following character sheet and we can go from there.

CHARACTER SHEET
Name: This is the name of your character, and the name that others will be able to see you by. In otherwords, it is your username for the mmo
Race: See below. Each race gives different types of bonuses.
Background: Optional, make it of the actual person in the virtual-reality-headset.
Starting Kit: See below, gives you different equipment to kcikstart you into the game.
Inventory Determined by Starting Kit.
Abilities This is the equivalent to Skills in other RPGs. They are the things you train and get better at. There are said to be an unlimited amount.

RACES:
Common Human: The generic common person. They are astonishingly average- not standing out or having any clear flaws to distinguish them from others.
+20% Starting Gold
Condling- This breed of small people are black skinned and black haired. They receive:
-

A 15% bonus to speed, health regen and whenever they are 2 miles away from a swamp, marsh, fen, ect.

-They stack an additional 10% bonus on riding horses.
-They are slightly frail, and start with 20% less health.
-Every time they partake in a boss fight and the boss is under 50% health, they gain a 10% faster health regen.

Belua- This is a deformed race, representing mixes of different races. Some have horns, other are shorter, but it is easy to tell that this race doesnt seem to belong.
-Once per ingame day, a Belua can disappear in a cloud of smoke. They are, in reality, invisible and can move undetected for 10 seconds before reappearing.
-Upon death, a Belua turns undead and grows 3.5x normal size, attacking anything in sight with a 20% attack and damage bonus. It has -75% health however.
-A Belua has a +3 Attack Bonus with simple weapons.

-A Cimex has a stinger that acts as a weapon. This weapon can be upgraded as its own trainable skill that the player starts with
-A Cimex has a 10% chance to be confronted by guards and a 5% chance to get attacked on sight when entering a city.

The warrior is your basic, generic sword/axe wielding warrior. You start with the following to add to your inventory slots.
-Bronze sword {+3, 1d6} OR -Light Bronze Axe {1d6+2}

This is a lightly armored and usually unarmed warrior that focuses on his expertise in martial arts. You start with the following to add to your inventory slots:

If you do not choose Quarterstaff or Bronze Shuko, you can automatically start with this ability at Lvl 2, which Grants 1d4+1 damage with bare hands.
-The Monk also starts with a Basic Food Package. Once your character opens it up, the game will automatically transfer the results into your inventory.

Shock, realization, fear and all of that quickly covered over by white hot anger as I put two and two together. There is no log out, very bad pain at health reducing injuries, and with everyone in one place trickles done to one answer. They want to kill us all. With that I go into a rage and doing my best Prince of Persia fighting style going for my other wolf.

I"M BACK

Name: Shadow
Race: Common Human
Background: I am a video game addict, and sometimes I don't know when to quit but I love video games.
Starting Kit: Warrior
Inventory: Bronze sword {+3, 1d6}, Bronze Ringmail {+5 AC},
Abilities Break, Lvl 1

The statue stirs, creaking loudly as the stone's colors become more life-like. It now merely appears to be a very very large man.... Perhaps a giant? The players near the structure seem to back off, whether from fear or to get a better look.
The man is gargantuan, and wearing a dark purple robe. In his right hand he is clutching a set of golden keys that shimmer in the pale sunlight. The sun is setting off to the west, creating beautiful streaks of scarlet that paint the sky.
That's when it spoke.
"Greetings, my good players," A deep baritone voice bursts. It generally startles many of the players, including you.
"My name is Yasu Kagome, and I am the creator of this game," he says, "And I am here to answer some of your questions. Some of you may have noticed some startling aspects to Brave Souls. It is true- You cannot log out. Let me make this clear that this was no mistake. As the same with pain- It is real and included for a reason,"
There is an outburst of murmurs. Why can't we log out? What is going on? Is he trapping us here? seem to be the outcry.
"Many of you will enjoy living in this world even more than the normal world. Many of you don't realize that I am saving you from the corporate grey-scale world that we live in. But here, you can be the knight in shining armor that you have dreamt of becoming since childhood. My whole life's is laid before you and I want you to enjoy it.
"But I am not careless. You will be released from Brave Souls and you will be able to log-out. That is, if you are able to complete the 100th Stage to this game. You are currently on Stage 1. To complete a stage, you must find the Boss and kill it. Doing so will open a portal to the next Stage.
"In addition, there is but one more twist that I must inform you good players of. If your avatar happens to reach 0 H.P. and die, your headset will emit high frequency microwaves into your brain, killing you. This will provide the ultimate challenge.
"You will end up praising me and my great work, for those that complete this game will go down in history as great heroes. So Go! Be free and explore the worlds! I will see you at Stage 100!"
And with that, he seems to float into the sky, disappearing with his golden keys.
At this time, the gates swing open.
And chaos ensues.

Abilities: Duel Block, Lvl 1, Steal, Lvl 1
Physical Description: Slightly tanned skin with dark brown hair and golden irises. At the knee and elbow joints is pure white scar tissue running around the joint. The lower limbs are noticeably lighter in tan the the rest of the body. He looks slight and nimble but he's strong enough.
Height: 6''1'

Sophian Features: What seem to be black tattoos cover his lower arms and lower legs. They look like some old and forgotten language, hidden meaning lie within the scripture known only to the character. The 'ink' is actually ash that was placed into fresh cuts when he turned 20.

Anything really, as far as the pole.

COMBAT ROUND 5~ Jack {12/12} Child {Unknown HP} vs. 2x Sand Wolf {Unknown HP}
Initiative Results:
Jack: 16
2x Sand Wolf: 5
Child: 8

You stab the one going for the kid in the neck, but the other wolf manages to bite into your calf, causing blood to flow out. You grunt in pain.
The child seems to be ok.
Theres only one wolf left.
You can do this, You think to yourself.

Jack's HP= 9/12

COMBAT ROUND 3~ Shadow {13/15} vs. 1x Sand Wolf {Unknown HP}
Initiative Results:
Shadow: 8
1x Sand Wolf: 5

You grit your teeth and jump at the wolf, hacking it at wildly. The wolf skids on the ground, bleeding crazily, but it manages to get back up and jump.
Its going for one last attack! You think to yourself.
Not today.
You take your bronze sword and thrust at the diving wolf. The beast falls over, clearly dead and almost unrecognizable. Everywhere, players are finishing their skirmishes with the Sand Wolves. There is general silence as the battles conclude.

And then the Statue in the center of the Coliseum starts to move.

You are not at the point where it is real-time with the other players.
The ground shakes, and from all around, wolves seem to rise up out of the ground. One is right near you, staring at you with deep, cardinal hate.

You input and make changes to the model until it satisfies you. Grinning, you are surprised that the game detected that you were finished making changes to your character.
The screen seems to fade again, slowly this time into an ebony landscape... You wake up..Or.... you open your eyes, regaining sight. Red Letters mark 'Day 1' on the corner of your vision. They dissipate after a few seconds and you take in your surroundings.
You seem to be in some sort of Colosseum. The sand feels warm beneath your feet, the smell of food drifts to you from some direction.... The sun glares down on you and the many people that are joining into the game. The arena seems to be triangular, with scenic murals off to to one wall, with tapestries coloring the other walls. There are closed, rusted iron gates on all 3 walls. There is a very large statue in the center of the depicting a cloaked figure holding a set of keys in one of his hands.
You aren't the only player there, however. Some are inspecting the gate, others talking to eachother in a panicked way.... It seems to be a chaos growing in volume as more players join into the game.

What do you do?

I hope that is everyone! Sorry for the delay!

The Child is up now, and not very sure what to do about the man that just saved him. He looks around for a second and spots his wooden quarterstaff that he had dropped when he was attacked. While you are busy with the last wolf, you see him go for it, out of the corner of your eye.
But you have other things to worry about.
You kick the wolf off with your spare leg, but it seems to drag a bit of spare flesh as it let go.
Ouch.
You clench you teeth and launch yourself, driving your bronze short sword into the beasts eye, and out back through the rear of its head.
Everywhere, players are finishing their skirmishes with the Sand Wolves. There is general silence as the battles conclude.
