"Virtual-Reality-Gaming has been around for a little over a decade," the reporter says, smile plastered on her cheery face, "but not in a way that the game company Fictusrem is now presenting it."
The reporter at the gaming convention goes on to explain that a new game was coming out- a fantasy mmorpg that allowed the player to embrace and explore a whole new world. To you this sounds like a great game, so you pre-order the console and the game.
You take it that you are very lucky- the game sells out only minutes after you purchase it. 25,000 copies sold in a matter of days. This game is called 'Brave Souls', and as you unwrap the console, hook it up, and then input the game into the headgear, you can't help but feel happy.
You turn on the game- and enter a vast world.....
But everything isn't as it seems.
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
Hello! Welcome to my first real attempt at a Forum Game. To save some confusion and perhaps some name-calling, this idea is not my own, but is based heavily off of an anime show called Sword Art Online. I highly recommend watching it, not only because it could give you a feel for this game, but because its a highly praised show; one that I personally really enjoyed.
But, if you don't want to watch it, that's fine, too. I will try to explain the concept quickly: A virtual reality game comes out, and once the player gets inside the game, there is no log-out option. They are told by the game's creator that they are trapped in the game and they are not allowed to leave until the players complete the 100th level of the game. There is a catch, and that is, if you die within the game, the headset will emit high frequency microwaves into your brain, killing you. Thus, this game just got a lot more serious.
If you want to play, then just post the following character sheet and we can go from there.

CHARACTER SHEET
Name: This is the name of your character, and the name that others will be able to see you by. In otherwords, it is your username for the mmo
Race: See below. Each race gives different types of bonuses.
Background: Optional, make it of the actual person in the virtual-reality-headset.
Starting Kit: See below, gives you different equipment to kcikstart you into the game.
Inventory Determined by Starting Kit.
Abilities This is the equivalent to Skills in other RPGs. They are the things you train and get better at. There are said to be an unlimited amount.

RACES:
Common Human: The generic common person. They are astonishingly average- not standing out or having any clear flaws to distinguish them from others.
+20% Starting Gold
Condling- This breed of small people are black skinned and black haired. They receive:
-

A 15% bonus to speed, health regen and whenever they are 2 miles away from a swamp, marsh, fen, ect.
-A 10% passive resistance to diseases and can receive a lesser penalty when hungry or thirsty
-They suffer a 15% penalty to speed and health regen whenever they are in a dry, desert-like area.

Fatu- This is a race of horned elves that are greatly inclined to fate.
- They receive a 20% passive bonus to challenges involving non-fey animals (As in normal animals.... not like dragons or owlbears )
-They stack an additional 10% bonus on riding horses.
-They are slightly frail, and start with 20% less health.
-Every time they partake in a boss fight and the boss is under 50% health, they gain a 10% faster health regen.
Sophian- This is a human race, although they are born with strange inscriptions and scars that have seperated them from normal common humans.
-+10% Bonus to Listen, Spot and Search passive checks
+15% to Healing-based checks
-Suffers a 15% penalty on hitting demons or demon-typed creatures.
Cunic- This is a race of tunneling dwarves that are adept in the sea as well the water
+10% All passives when underground or at sea
+10% To a specific skill or trade. The profession may be switched up to three times.
+10% To Avoid a Push or Push type attack
Suffers a Gold Penalty, Loses -5% Gold per kill
Belua- This is a deformed race, representing mixes of different races. Some have horns, other are shorter, but it is easy to tell that this race doesnt seem to belong.
-Once per ingame day, a Belua can disappear in a cloud of smoke. They are, in reality, invisible and can move undetected for 10 seconds before reappearing.
-Upon death, a Belua turns undead and grows 3.5x normal size, attacking anything in sight with a 20% attack and damage bonus. It has -75% health however.
-A Belua has a +3 Attack Bonus with simple weapons.
Cimex This is a race of bee people. They are as tall as a normal man, however, not as charming
-A Cimex can fly short distances, and this flying abilty becomes its own trainable skill that the player starts with
-A Cimex has a stinger that acts as a weapon. This weapon can be upgraded as its own trainable skill that the player starts with
-A Cimex has a 10% chance to be confronted by guards and a 5% chance to get attacked on sight when entering a city.
STARTING KITS
In a way, these are sort of like classes. They give you a kickstarted bonus so you can start out with a general shape for your character. You may pick one kit.
Warrior
The warrior is your basic, generic sword/axe wielding warrior. You start with the following to add to your inventory slots.
-Bronze sword {+3, 1d6} OR -Light Bronze Axe {1d6+2}
-Bronze Ringmail {+5 AC}
-You may also add the following ability to the 'Ability' tab: 'Break, Lvl 1'. Break= User strikes a blow to specifically break a foes weapon, armor, shield ect. Deals 1d4 DMG to the item.
Monk
This is a lightly armored and usually unarmed warrior that focuses on his expertise in martial arts. You start with the following to add to your inventory slots:
-Starter Robes {+1 AC}
- Quarterstaff {2H, Reach, 1d6} OR Bronze Shuko (Fighting Claws){1d4, Dual Wield}
-'Unarmed Strike, Lvl 1' Ability. This allows the user to deal 1d4 damage with their bare hands. As the user increases this skill, the damage and chance-to-hit the target will increase as well. If you do not choose Quarterstaff or Bronze Shuko, you can automatically start with this ability at Lvl 2, which Grants 1d4+1 damage with bare hands.
-The Monk also starts with a Basic Food Package. Once your character opens it up, the game will automatically transfer the results into your inventory.
Samurai
The honorable Japanese katana-wielding fighter.They tend to focus on being one with their weapon, and drawing out many abilities out of their blade. Starts with the following:
-Bronze Katana {+1, 1d6, High-crit}
-Starter Robes [+1 AC}
-Choose Two of the Following Abilities: Power Strike, Lvl 1 {Deal an extra 1d4 Damage with a -3 To-Hit-Penalty} Disarm,Lvl 1 { 10% chance to 'disarm' target and remove weapon}, Cleave, Lvl 1{User attempts to kill target in one hit, probability is very low} Blade Catch, Lvl 1 {User catches the weapon with his hand, blocking the blow. Like Cleave, it needs to be trained before proper use. Otherwise you could 'miss' the catch and take heavy damage.} Draw Out, Lvl 1 { You draw the spirit out of your katana, and it fights with you for x rounds, where x is your current level in Draw Out}
Lancer
The Lancer is a warrior who studies dragons, perfecting his spear techniques so that one day he can make the decision to befriend or destroy the creatures. Starts with the following
-Bronze Spear {1d6, Reach}
- Cow Leather Set {+2 AC}
-The Ability 'Jump Attack, Lvl 2' {User jumps into the air, swinging his weapon downward on the opponent. Deals an additional 1d4+1 Damage to opponent. Usuable once per encounter}
Thief
A nimble and agile character that has give and take stats. He excels at some areas, while lacking much in other areas. Starts with
-x5 Bronze Dagger {1d4} OR x2 Bronze Short Sword {1d6}
-The Thief suffers a -5 attack penalty to any weapon outside of the 'Light Blade' Weapon group. {This includes Katars, Daggers, Short Swords, ect.)
-If you picked the 'x5 Bronze Dagger' Option, then add the Ability 'Duel Wield,Lvl 1' {Allows you to attack with both weapons, with a small penalty. In the Bronze Dagger case, it would be 2d4-2}
-If you picked the 'x2 Bronze Short Sword' option, then add the Ability 'Duel Block, Lvl 1' {Allows user to block with both weapons, adding a small amount of AC}
-Pick 1 of the following abilities: Steal, Lvl 1 {Allows the user to take an item from an NPC outside of Combat} Capture, Lvl 1 {Allows the user to take an item from an NPC during combat} Trap Knowledge, Lvl 1 {Allows the user to passively be more aware of traps in the area, and know how to diffuse them}
-The Thief gains a +20% increased Speed and Dexterity for a cost of 20% Starting Health
Ninja
The Ninja combines special movements to perform different seemingly magical attacks. They specialize in mid-ranged combat, but can excel in close quarters situations. Starts With:
-The Ninja is unable to wear heavy armor, Unless trained by a specialist

-The Ninja can only use the following weapons: Katana, Dagger/throwing Knife, Boomerang, Shuriken, Unless trained by a specialist for a different weapon
-Choose one of the following skills: 'Counter,Lvl.1' {This allows you to deal minor damage to an enemy that misses an attack against you} Lightning Fists,Lvl.1 {This allows the user to deal 1d4 unarmed strikes in a row against an opponent. If the first attack hits, then the rest do. The recharge on this ability is once per encounter}or 'Special Throw,Lvl 1' {This ability allows the user to use an otherworldly power to deal double damage on a thrown weapon. The recharge for this ability is once per encounter}
Hunter
The Hunter is a long ranged typed kit that can control the battlefield, given proper usage. Starts with

-Cow Leather Set {+2 AC}
-You may pick one of the following: 'Aim,Lvl 1' {Allows the User to concentrate for a turn, then on the next recieve a +1d4+2 attack and damage bonus} OR Ammo Barrage,Lvl 1 {Allows user to concentrate for one turn, then on the next turn fire Five attacks with a ranged weapon, with a -4 penalty on each attack roll}

I'd like to join but I have a few thing I want to know, do you have to use one of the races posted on page one or can you make your own, also can you make your own class/kick start kit or are you stuck with the ones already there?

As far as races and classes, no you cannot make your own. In a future patch, you might be able to switch between races, but that process would be expensive and cause small sicknesses. (Think what would happen if you turned from a human to a small dwarf.)
You are more than welcome to make suggestions for races, because, as I stated earlier, transformation and switching between the races might become a possibility.

Name: Spikeabc
Race: Belua
Background: Yeah, well, it seems im stuck in a video game. addiction at its finest. im not a backround person, so lets not get into it...
Starting Kit: Beserker
Inventory: Bronze Axe (1d6) {Equipped}, Cow leather set (2AC){Equipped}
Abilities: -Berserk, Lvl 1

COMBAT ROUND 3~ Spikeabc{15/15 HP}; Stranger{Unknown HP} vs. 3x Sand Wolf {Unknown HP}
Initiative Results:
Stranger-13
Spikeabc- 6
3x Sand Wolf- 4

Kicking and screaming, the Stranger manages to stand up, grabbing multiple parts of his body. Not really sure what to do, he starts sprinting towards his spear that he had thrown. The man runs past you, and you come under the wolves attention. You run a little and swing at one of the wolves, but it keenly ducks under the blow. You feel a sting as yellow, bloody teeth sink into your calf. You kick the wolf off and dive to escape the bites of the other two wolves.
Theres a HP bar in the top right of your vision, and it goes down a little bit.

Spikeabc HP: 13/15

Name: Rhyos
Race: Sophian
Background: Unemployed and freshly graduated from high school. Has a love for MMORPGs.
Starting Kit: Samurai
Inventory: Bronze Katana {+1, 1d6, High-crit}, Starter Robes [+1 AC}
Abilities: - Power Strike, Lvl 1, Draw Out, Lvl 1

You pull up the menu screen by sliding a finger up vertically.
The menu seems to contain multiple things, although nothing really different from other MMOs. Inventory, Stats, Abilities, etc etc etc, but one thing catches your eye.

Theres no log out button.

Suddenly, the ground shakes, shouting tremors all across the sands of the Colosseum. Out of the ground rises several.... what are they? You are squinting your eyes to see when one rises right beside you . Two tan colored wolves growl at you. Their eyes glint with cardinal hate. A low growl emits from it.
Wolves around the stadium start pouncing on panicked players. An uproar of 25,000 players fighting is suddenly released in full glory.

What do you do?

K all set but here is an idea for those who don't want to be warriors but still want to swings swords without going Beserker, Knight class is my answer. I'll ever put in what I think is a good armor set and weapons, as well as the abilities it thats okay, but I'll do that later.

But now, thank you for waiting, Brave Souls!

Initiative Results:
3x Sand Wolf: 19
Spikeabc: 14
Stranger: 11

What happens next seems to occur in slow motion, You seem to pull out a pocket of inner energy. The three wolves dash at you, and bite....air. Something about your Berserk ability gave you seemingly superior reflexes, and you dodge all three of the attacks is if they were mere child's play. You smash the last one as it lunges at you, sending it spiraling over your shoulder and flying at the Stranger, who now has picked up his spear.
The Stranger grins at the bleeding wolf and grins wildly, howling "Revenge!" as he dramatically finishes off the beast.

Initiative Results: {Initiative determines a combat round's order}
Rhyos: 6
2x Sand Wolf: 15

You are shocked at the speed of the beasts. That, and, since you just joined the game, you are not that used to the game's controls. The first one jumps at you, aiming for your entrails. You somehow manage to dodge it, but not the second one, as it tackles you over, biting into you.
Awful pain is all you feel. You are utterly confused and panicky. The game isn't suppose to allow pain! You think. Even though you are on the ground, you draw your katana out and hit the beast with the hilt of your katana. It flinches and gets off.
No log out button, feeling pain.... Something is very off about this.
You think quickly.
You don't yet realize how right you really are.

You input and make changes to the model until it satisfies you. Grinning, you are surprised that the game detected that you were finished making changes to your character.
The screen seems to fade again, slowly this time into an ebony landscape... You wake up..Or.... you open your eyes, regaining sight. Red Letters mark 'Day 1' on the corner of your vision. They dissipate after a few seconds and you take in your surroundings.
You seem to be in some sort of Colosseum. The sand feels warm beneath your feet, the smell of food drifts to you from some direction.... The sun glares down on you and the many people that are joining into the game. The arena seems to be triangular, with scenic murals off to to one wall, with tapestries coloring the other walls. There are closed, rusted iron gates on all 3 walls. There is a very large statue in the center of the depicting a cloaked figure holding a set of keys in one of his hands.
You aren't the only player there, however. Some are inspecting the gate, others talking to eachother in a panicked way.... It seems to be a chaos growing in volume as more players join into the game.

What do you do?

I take my sword out of it scabbard, I've seen scenes of a Roman Colosseum in many rpgs, and I believe I know what is going on, so I start to chat, making sure every one know what I'm thinking, "Uh everyone, I think were going to be in a fight here soon, so unless you guys want your avatars dead I suggest you take your weapons out now,." I do this as a suggestion not a command.
