ok you are all wrong.

you cant decide a greatest guitarist because theres so many different kinds of guitar styles.

i mean ya, jimmy hendrix IS amazing. but there is no way he could do what micheal angelo batio does

then you have old bucket head, who is so good and fast that he makes random notes and cords sound good.

in the end you cant really crown the greatest guitarist of all time. between speed, classical, blues, and regular rock and roll.

but if id have to crown it in the catagories it would have to be

hendrix-blues

micheal angelo batio-speed

classical-some andy guy my friend showed me one day

regualt rock and roll-jimmy page (maybe)

the best guitarist is so gotta be Jimi Hendrix, then Slash, and Jimmy Page, Another good one is Tom Morello

UGHHH.....i don't mean to be mean, but whoever posted the 1st comment is SO typical. Why does everyone take the most famous guitarists and say they're the best? Yes, i know that a lot of the famous guitarists ARE the best but cmon, not really them.

I can agree with Slash and Van Halen.

Tom Morello = DEFINITELY NOT

i have to agree with delossantos you can't just name one guitarist for all genres.
and most of the posts here decide the guitarists according to guitar hero, WTF?

If i had to choose some guitarists here are my top 10
(not in order)

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Steve Vai
3. Buckethead
4. Eric Johnson
5. Eric Clapton
6. Jeff Beck
7. Yngwie Malmsteen
8. Herman Lee
9. Zack Wylde
10. Sam Totman

I think John Williams is a phenomenal classical guitarist, as is Julian Bream.
I like Clapton's blues stuff a lot, and Stevie Ray Vaughan has a really clean but fun style.

jimi hendrix and and jimi page i have a hard time choosing between them...

jimmy hendrix in my oppinion just barly number 4.

know your guitarists look them up.

I've adopted the thinking, "To each his own." I'll never understand the fascination with Jimi Hendrix. On the other hand, I'll never cease to be fascinated by Herman Li.

your all wrong. you all throw out stupid classic names which everyone tells you to pick. none of these people like slash or tom morello or jimmy hendrix are amazing. theyre alrite but compared to herman li of dragonforce they are nothing. he is quite possibly the greatest known guitarist. but you need to think about the millions of people who play guitar and arent in a famous band!

the dragonforce guitarists and ive noticed everyone is postin guitar hero people

^ I know that i said that the Dragonforce guitarists are good, but I have changed my mind. I heard them live, and man are they terrible! I am starting to think that alot of classical players, yet under rated, are the top in skill. One of my new favorites would be John York.
Also, this is a dead topic. I know it is fun to talk about this, but if the thread hasn't been commented on in a couple months, don't post. Thanks!
