That's a tough list to come up with considering I can't even remember some of the books I've read nowadays. None of the above are in any specific order since I do consider them to be amongst my favorites simply out of the sheer entertainment they provided me. Some of them may be suited for an older audience though. Series' like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy are so packed with allusions that it requires multiple readings, depending on your age, to catch them all.
new list Every thing Lord of the Rings Chronicles of narnia Chronicles of Prydain (favorite character, the bards mount) Tom Clancy's books on John Patrick Ryan Sr. Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance)

Go to a school, and ask a teenager if they read a book excluding Harry Potter or a few others (hunger games, Lotr (maybe), etc) You are likely to get a response along the lines of, "You read books, why not just watch the movie", one kid actually told me he reads one anthology only, the Holy Bible.
I also forgot to add that I like the Artemis Fowl series and I also like Eoin Colfer's book Airborn . I also forgot to add that for whatever reason, I can't stand the Percy Jackson series. I guess I don't like it because those books lost a lot of the valuable lessons in original Greek mythology.
