After days of review, MrDayCee has been nominated by the moderation team and accepted the position of moderator. He will be eased into the position for these next couple weeks; please give him the respect due him in the position.
However thinking about it, there could be other reasons
They're relatively unknown outside of the WEPR, and just because they post a lot there doesn't mean they're necessarily the helpful mod-like type. I've never seen Mage post in S&S, and Kasic has always given me a rather condescending vibe.
They came to mind because they're reasonable debaters and can keep cool while doing so.
Debate skills are nice to have, but possessing said skills doesn't necessarily improve your chances of being selected as a potential candidate. The ability to keep cool is definitely advantageous, but you can find that trait in more than just two users.
Also, you rarely if ever see NoName post in S&S or any other section.
You don't much now, but keep in mind he became a moderator in 2008, and back then you'd see him more in the other sections.
At least you would in 2009. I wasn't here very long in 2008 so I can't speak much about the events that occurred in that year.
Am I the only one that finds it strange that all the moderators have to all agree with having a new moderator?
I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. Take a football team for example, the coaches (admins) decide which players get to be on the team, not the current roster (mods). Or another example, job at a supermarket. The manager chooses new employees, the current employees have no say in who gets to have a job or not.
Am I the only one that finds it strange that all the moderators have to all agree with having a new moderator?
It's not a system I necessarily agree with either, but it does make sense considering that the moderators are going to be working alongside these people and they don't want someone on their team that they would have a hard time working with.
But I've been on plenty of sites where the admins choose who they add to the list, and if anything it is more efficient.
Am I the only one that finds it strange that all the moderators have to all agree with having a new moderator?
Do we know this is for sure? When Devoidless made his comment, I'm pretty sure it was a sarcastic remark at how they didn't have a say in him becoming mod
I was thinking Mage and Kasic.
Eh...I can't really see them becoming mods (MAYBE Mage...but it's a stretch)
I don't really get that "mod" vibe from them...with MrDayCee, he is extremely helpful when people are having issues with the site and is able to communicate with people very well.
Mage would be good if someone is complaining/whining a lot...but I can't really see him going out of his way to help people with issues
Kasic....what Ernie said: Kasic has always given me a rather condescending vibe.
I've never seen Mage post in S&S
I don't really see you in the S&S section...but I still strongly believe you'd be a great mod
This community has just taken a big step in the most rockin' direction possible!
What's so unusual about the mods choosing new mods?
Well I can't say for sure because I don't know if the moderators HAVE to interact with each other to get things done (Although I doubt it), but as Matrix said it is the coaches decision who plays and if your enemy looks like a really good player then you have to suck it up and deal with it.
According to Cenere, if even just one person had a problem with the chosen moderator, he/she would not be chosen. I'm not sure how far this goes but I would assume that it would have to be a valid point. However, it just does not seem like a great way to welcome someone to being a moderator with the whole team deciding if they like this new person.
Opinions should not get in the way of choosing a moderator.
It isn't completely unheard for the employees to be able to voice their opinions about future coworkers. You have to be able to work well with the people that are already there, and if the people who are already there don't like you... then you might just be sol. Some might think that's biased... and you would be right, but if the bulk of a group doesn't think they can work efficiently with you in a team setting, then it seems logical to sometimes let the people who are already there throw in their two cents.
A condescending vibe wouldn't make a good moderator? HOW DARE YOU!?!?! Cenere was like the best moderator ever!!! Nemo has his moments too... and lets not forget the ever present Gantic. Angry rage face condescending people can be great mods.
I'm pretty sure it was a sarcastic remark at how they didn't have a say in him becoming mod
Most likely because of inactivity.
---
Their system looks predictable. Look at the past two mod decisions: Freakenstein and MrDayCee. Sum up their site activity and traits: Happy posters, mostly positive about AG, mainly in S&S, friends with several mods and admins. I'm not trying to be negative about them or anything, but when you really look at it, the way they choose mods can be abused. Of course there are many other things they consider before modding users, but those I mentioned seem to be high up there.
