Hello everyone,

After days of review, MrDayCee has been nominated by the moderation team and accepted the position of moderator. He will be eased into the position for these next couple weeks; please give him the respect due him in the position.

Am I the only one that finds it strange that all the moderators have to all agree with having a new moderator?
It's always been that way, in particular back when there was only really one admin trawling the forums alongside the mods. We're the ones who see how people behave, we're the ones to suggest &quotromotions".

The reason is that we need to be able to function as a team and get along. During the selection process, between someone being suggested and actually picked, we go over our experiences with the user in question. If anyone knows something dodgy the rest of us weren't aware of, it's good to bring it up.

I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. Take a football team for example, the coaches (admins) decide which players get to be on the team, not the current roster (mods).
Or another example, job at a supermarket. The manager chooses new employees, the current employees have no say in who gets to have a job or not.
This isn't a paid job like those, y'know. We're volunteering to be part of the team.

According to Cenere, if even just one person had a problem with the chosen moderator, he/she would not be chosen. I'm not sure how far this goes but I would assume that it would have to be a valid point. However, it just does not seem like a great way to welcome someone to being a moderator with the whole team deciding if they like this new person.
You seem to assume that by &quotroblem" Cen meant a personal dislike.
The kind of problem actually meant is the sort of thing that would make the user in question unfit for a moderator position.

This, again, loops back to the point that the active moderators (and admins, nowadays) are the ones who actually see the users and how they act.
Imagine if a troll wrote a stellar application and was made mod based solely on that. Commence chaos.

Football players have to work as a team to win and it's not always a paid job.

I think it's interesting that asking to be a moderator is such a serious taboo if it's a volunteer job... isn't that sort of the opposite of what a volunteer job is supposed to be? =P

Wow, things are rapidly getting better on armorgames! Congrats MrDayCee, from what I've seen from you in the S&S and occasional lurks in popular media, you seem like an excellent choice!

Am I the only one that finds it strange that all the moderators have to all agree with having a new moderator?

It does seem kinda strange that all the mods have to agree, but they will have to work alongside the new mod. I guess it would also depend on how much they disagree, but probably as Laughable said it would have to be a valid problem with the user in question.

Look at the past two mod decisions: Freakenstein and MrDayCee. Sum up their site activity and traits: Happy posters, mostly positive about AG, mainly in S&S, friends with several mods and admins.

Well it seems a little like the criteria for mods has maybe raised a little since 2008-2010/changed maybe a bit. I don't know, also I guess there haven't been new mods recently besides MrDayCee, but those qualities are good for would-be moderators in my opinion anyway.

Nonetheless, like Sonatavarius said, I don't think a user should be ruled out for being "angry rage face condescending people."

They are nice qualities, but the trend makes it predictable for people to abuse.

Most likely because of inactivity.

Watch your sass, mister.

Calm down, Hoss, I was merely posting an observation.

Glad that's the only thing in my post you feel like nitpicking at. Hope that's because you see my points. :P

It's mostly to prevent endless spam of "can i b mod plz" etc, since that would get old real fast.
Last I heard it is still possible to email an application to the admins if you're serious about getting aboard. Never seen a such go further, though.

Nonetheless, like Sonatavarius said, I don't think a user should be ruled out for being "angry rage face condescending people."
If that's all they are, then yes, they should be ruled out. A grumpy and/or snarky demeanor is okay, condescending rage is not.

My point is that you don't need to know them beforehand for teamwork to develop and succeed. Most people who play for a football team probably didn't know each other at first, but as time progressed so did the teamwork.
That's also the only thing you directly quoted from me, didn't see a reason to respond to the other parts.
Please keep in mind that you do not see everything.

I see the important things.

I see an interesting amount of arrogance.

Yeah, and that's basically what happens when a new admin appears, btw. We're like "oh hello" and they're like "hi I'm your team lead now" and we end up getting along after getting acquainted. So yes, it can work. Never said it couldn't, but the other way works too.

That's also the only thing you directly quoted from me, didn't see a reason to respond to the other parts.
The other parts were about the same thing, but oh well.

Thought you guys would've figured out by now that I'm not 100% serious when posting. Guess Frank never talked about me.

Summarizing this thread:

1) Yay Daycee!
2) The moderators are a football team.
3) I'm apparently condescending.
4) Zophia is alive. :O

Anyways, congrats MrDayCee. It's been a while coming and with so few constantly active mods around I'm sure you'll be able to take some of the load off the others.

I noticed =D Though...I also remember when you were a more less serious Ghost so that helped with my noticing

This is DayCee we are talking about here...he has his reputation for a reason

Please keep in mind that you do not see everything.

Tone of voice doesn't transfer through text and your statement didn't come across as joking to me. I can accept that it wasn't meant seriously, though.

I was responding to the question about why mods are selected the way they are, not badmouthing DayCee. :P I'm sure he'll be a lovely mod.
