If you've been paying attention, there's one word that will cause your "messiah" to lose:

Clinton

Well, how do you think this great nation got started in the first place? There were no government handouts to get people started with their own business, there were no bailout legislations. If you lost money, you would just pick up the pieces and move on. The problem with capitalism today is that whenever people lose money, they all go crying to the government for help. It's this victim mentality that is hurting the US capitalistic system.

Well, this great nation was more or less a third world country up until the great depression and WWII. At that point we had a largely capitalist society with few socialist reforms which created great divisions in wealth and a small elite class who profited off of the huge working class. This almost pure capitalist system led to major problems such as corruption, horrid working conditions, and ultimately major environmental calamities such as the dust bowl. At this point FDR stepped in with "The New Deal" a large package of socialist reforms which in turn with WWII spurred the growth of the middle class, raised the standard of living of all US citizens, and made the United States the superpower that it is today. So yes, I will stand by my statement that pure capitalism fails and a system needs socialist reforms to be optimally productive.

Agent, when you brag about listening to LImbaugh you're basically just shouting "i'm ignorant. I'm a non-thinking sheep". The fact that you get your opinions from such a biased source basically voids anything and everything you have to say.
It's funny that Agent talks about taxes because where do you think we're going to get the money to pay for two wars?!?! Taxes, right? WE have to pay for it somehow. At least the taxes that the democrats employ will be used for the betterment of our society.
I just wanted to see if you'd spew profanities again, dizzyk...=)

Hey, I did better that time

The problems of this Country reach far further then the government. I mean, the government can only do so much to assist unwed teenage mothers, to help schools, and the unemployed. Sometimes the people need to take blame for their problems. That is not to say that the government shouldn't do it's best to assist individuals as that is what government is for to help the people of it's country (and all that that means).

To spout information about kids dropping out and welfare being taken advantage of etc. the government can only help so much before the ball is in the individuals court. However, that is not to say that the Republican ideals of (let the rich prosper and the poor starve) is not the way we should go. While it is possible that the government can go too far in it's attempts to assist individuals, I would rather see the government handing out too much money then not enough. What some people fail to realize is that poor, or uneducated people can affect the entire society.

That's exactly what I'm saying! People need to realize that the government can only do so much to help them, but "the government handing out too uch money than not enough"? The government should not need to hand out money at all!

Well, most of my problem with these handouts is that people have come to expect them whenever they are in a rut.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but I also don't think that everyone who uses the system is abusing it. There are a lot of people who truly need help. My father worked for the same company for 24 years before they went bankrupt and laid him off. He began looking for work and it took longer than he expected so he applied for and received unemployment until he found another job like four months later. That government program helped keep my families home and food on the table until by father could get back on his feet. Now, just because you may have never had to use a government provided service doesn't mean it is a worthless program. I hope a day never comes that you will need assistance but if that day should come you'll change your tune.

Actually, my mom was on unemploymet for a few months this spring, but that's not what I'm talking about. My problem is that there are too many people abusing medicare, welfare, and many other government services. And here in California, illegal aliens, who shouldn't even be in this country in the first place, are demanding that they be given government handouts as well.

Agent 86 is right about people abusing welfare, I've heard of people having more kids so that the can increase their child welfare payments.

The problem with that is when those kids grow up, they can't afford to go to college, so they end up in the same welfare system that their parents were in. Then they have kids so that they can get more child welfare, and it becomes a vicious cycle.

I would agree with you. There are too many people abusing government programs right now, but my solution isn't to remove those programs, I just think that we should make them harder to abuse. I'm sure that you've heard about the medicare frauds where people will make millions filling out false medicare claims from a phony business using dead doctors as references. However, that doesn't mean we should cut back, or even get rid of medicare which does keep people alive, what we should do it make it harder and less rewarding for people to fill out those phony claims in the first place.

Abusing? Ehh, I think all those families actually need it. They may be able to support themselves but barely...
