Alright, so two people can touch eachother, and Al Gore isn't a terrorist. But I refuse to stop arguing with people that are smarter than me until I can win.

This was inspired by an episode of the television show, The Moment of Truth. A paramedic was asked if fat people repulsed him, his answer was yes. This led me to question whether fat people repulsed me, my conclusion is for myself only but it has led me to more questions, mainly, are the obese immoral?

I am sure everyone can say, that they believe that allowing another person to starve to death, specifically children, is immoral, or, not conforming to the patterns of conduct usually accepted or established as consistent with principles of personal and social ethics.

A normal adult consumes 2427 calories a day, 18% less than an obese adult.

Since a baby needs 100 calories a day, every second day an obese person is effectively responsible for the death of a baby in a third world country. That is 182 babies every year. People are given the death penalty, for many less than that.

and what if a person likes food really much and likes being fat?
do you think they should be forced to change?

Yes.

Yes.

than acting logically we should force anyone to change, who behaves in a way differently than society wants it.

so we should start things like forbidding people to play to much videogames, because they influence their social life and absorb a lot of time.

we should forbid smoking, drinking, paintball, bungeejumping and a lot of other stuff because it ist dangerous.

so if you want to create a uniformed society where everyone is identical than this is the right way to go

with me nothing. just followed the argument of the poster before, that everything that may lead to some danger or is socially unpopular should be banned.

not my idea. i like my freedom pretty much and therefore i do not want to take it from someone else

Paintball?

What's so dangerous in paintball? Paintball has less injuries than most sports, let alone every day tasks like driving...

He was just trying to prove a point. That just because something has a small amount of risk involved doesn't mean it should be banned. I've argued that before in another thread.

Exactly, if somebody wants to be obese, or do nothing about being obese, we should let them

Would you feel the same way if we lived in a third world country where you only get one meal a day? If that? In America if we allow people to keep getting fatter and fatter someday we'll have a food shortage. Of course it will take a very long time, but it will happen. Especially with the amount of farmers decreasing. No one wants to go into that field anymore.

An extremely long time for a food shortage to happen due to obese people. And what could you do about it anyway? Make being obese illegal, doubt that will ever happen.

Everyone knows that making some illegal rarely works. We need to restructure the society of America. The longer we wait to do something drastic about obesity levels the harder it's going to be to stop in the future.

i really strongly doubt, that fat people are eating so much more than other people that they will cause a food shortage.

there are some people who really eat excessivley, being thin or fat.
but the majority of overweight people consumes an inadequate amount for their body not in general.
especially since athlets consume most food of all.

if you are a tall quite muscular guy who exercise 5-7 days w week you will have no problem consuming 3.000-3.500 calories a day.

wheareas a guy who sits in front of the tv all day eating the same amount of food, will quickly gain weight.

The way you talk about babies dying implies there is only the perfect ammount of calories in the world every day to feed everybody just the amount they need...

Anyway, being fat is not immoral in that sense and the other one I get is that you are meant to be healthy and some people don't get the chance to walk and be active so if you are then it's immoral to be fat and unfit. But even from tha perspective that means unless you perfect EVERYTHING then you are acting immorally with other things.

I truly do believe the obese are immoral. They consume more calories then necessary for daily survival, knowing that there are others in the world dying of starvation. However I do believe this is the product of our society, which focuses on the idividual, rather than the group.

Honestly, what are you going to do about it? Who is going to do anything about it? Nothing. No one. They are way to many overweight people for the problem to be taken care of.

If you look at the first post I am specifically pointing the finger at people who eat excessively for no reason other than they like to eat excessively

Honestly, what are you going to do about it? Who is going to do anything about it? Nothing. No one.

We discuss lots of things in the World Events, Politics, and Religion forum. That same question can be asked about 95% of them.

I didn't realize that you could predict the future, and I certainly hope you can't, because I certainly won't be a happy dead guy if no one has done anything and there are still obese people in the year 2350.
