marton, capitalism and socialism are economic policies. Democracy is just a policy that allows people to voice their opinions via a vote ( How powerful a vote really is varies by nation ). Pinochet was very capitalist but he was a brutal dictator. Socialist nations labled "Communist States" also had no democracy.
To Drace and others who support his ideas: So what you're saying is you're going to complain that people are richer than you, then when someone tells you to get a life, you complain that you don't have to? STOP WINING YOU LITTLE SNIVELS!!!

I don't really now the difference, but I think today's world work as capitalism more than ever. Free trading are everywhere, ready or not.
on youtube "Eric Schmidt - google" it's a one hour video, sorry I can't give you direct link, I'm in China now, and they block facebook, youtube even blogger!
I wonder why there is nobody watch this video, oh I know, because it's one hour!
I am not totally for socialism in the sense of all industries being government controlled but there are countries that use a balance of socialist and capitalist ideas. I suppose I feel that's probably the best way to do it.
I have to disagree with those who say that those who support socialism are just whining because people are richer than them and they don't want to have to work hard. That is a rather sad assumption. Sure there are people who will gripe about getting a bad lot and still not do anything to try to change it but that's not everyone. I've known people who have worked hard their whole lives and still have to struggle to support their families. I've seen kids who worked their asses off in school and were in the top 1% of their class get passed over for scholarship because there just aren't enough to go around.
Can you really say that everything is fine when some CEOs are making tens of millions of dollars when the companies they represent won't even provide the employees who are those companies very foundations with a living wage and decent health benefits?
Everyone argues one or another. Both come with their own problems. Why can't we take the good parts from both and use those? It's not just black and white. It's a whole scale.
Socialism does not work. Just look at the US economy since 1900, since the Federal Reserve was created to try and control the economy, the dollar has devalued over 90%. Capitalism is not perfect, but it works, and is the only system that rewards people for innovation. Why should a man in a socialist government work hard if it's all but impossible to fire him? Big government always leads to less freedom, fact of life. Democratic socialism is the biggest joke of all, people NEVER elect the wrong people to office, Yeah right =D.

What does the federal reserve have to do with the economy
