My personal opinion is that guns are just fine. Guns help us provide security for our families if something ever happens, but I want to here your opinions.

well the people who buy them will most probably use them eventually. Especially in the UK where the only people with guns are the crims and the aristocracy who go bird shootin an all dat.

It isn't for many things, but those few things are very important things...

Lol in all truth, most of the time a "normal" citizen wouldn't have the guts to shoot sumone whether getting robbed or not. With that a gun in your hand, may end up with your own death.
Here's a bright ides. How bout they only make guns that can only shoot when it recognizes the owners own hand print. That way we'd all be safe and would know who shot who. Got that from shoot 'em up. Good movie btw

Thats actually a pretty good idea but people wouldnt be able to affords the technology and would carry on buying conventional guns. The oppurtunity cost for manufacturers switching would be way too high and they would lose a lot of their production possibility frontier. So from an econoomic point of view it makes no sense.

Well, some police agencies have locking holsters that unlock only by the officer's thumbprint. This prevents criminals from using the officer's gun against him.

But, if you're too chicken to fire a gun, why would you buy one? That just doesn't make sense.

People buy them for many reasons. Protection, for show. People dont always buy them with an intent to murder. And also how do you truly know if u have the cojones to use it before you have 1.

(That was funny woody_7007 i have not seen cojones in a forum in a while) And it is good when you use it for protection and bad when you use it for murder.

i agree, its an underused word. But on a more serious point. Why use a gun for self protection. Surely the best protection is to run away. Many many people who are trained to fight like soldiers and martial artists never fight people in the street not cos of their moral code but because they know the risk is too great. So if they get into a fight they have the pride t run away. It may sound dumb but its very sensible and true.

If you were a true martial artist, you would know to never turn your back if you get into a fight. You never what your opponent might do...

Yes but there is a difference betweening turning your back in a fight and turning your back to run away.

But the point you haven't made, is the kind of person who is responsible enough to have a permitted, concealed gun, has the sense not to get into a situation like this. People who go around blasting folks because they looked at them wrong give the actually responsible citizens a bad name.

Plus, there are a lot of situations where running wouldn't help. There are people who would either follow, or track you down and do something worse than the contents of an average fist-fight.

You don't get my point. The reason you would use a gun is because you had no other choice. It is a weapon of last resort. Yes, you should run if possible, but if escape is impossible, You would have to defend yourself.

Remove guns and we go back 400-500 years in technological advancement.
War, not necessity, is the mother of invention.
