You're school does that? Funny...

Are school encourages that we embrace whatever religion and culture we are a part of. They allow us to pray, and there is even a "multicultural" day where kids dress in traditional costumes from there culture/religion, and bring in religious artifacts or texts or what not.

But maybe were just pimp like that... XD

But yeah. That is ridiculous that kids can cuss, and be inappropriate and what not, but they can't pray. Kids do all that stuff at my school, but they don't restrict religion.

Hmm, well you should complain to you're parents, who should complain to the district.

Then you don't participate... It's that easy

That would make them a target for bullying or teasing, especially with younger kids.

I don't understand why you guys have a problem with the of YOUR country! This country was founded by christians. You not saying the pledge is saying that you don't support your country!

When did the United States of America suddenly become a theocracy? Freedom of religion is included in the Constitution, NOT "All citizens will be forced to become Christian."

And, after almost 13 years of saying the pledge of allegiance nearly every day of my life, if I feel like reading through it, I'm completely anti-America. Yeah, right. I support our country; a stupid pledge that has lost it's meaning to me is just a waste of time.

So, like I've said before. If you want to pray, do so on your own time. If the teacher has to stop you, it not only stops your praying, it disrupts the learning environment that the teacher was attempting to create. Chances are, students will get unruly during the process, and more time is wasted trying to get them to calm down and focus again.

At my school we aren't allowed to pray during school because they say that it's a distraction.

So am I.

I would just like to say that it is not fair to push religion on these kids. I know people that have mixed beliefs, so I think it is right to not teach about religion in school, where some kids agree or disagree with the teachings.

I'm not religious in any way, but I have friends that are and do like to pray before they eat and stuff like that.
I think people who like to pray and worship their respected God should, and actually are I believe, allowed to do so as long as it's not to the point they're doing so in class during a lecture or speaking really loud so everyone can hear them. At that point then I think they should be told something, I know I don't want to hear that when I'm doing classwork.
As far as Bibles and other Holy items that some people carry around, I think it's nice they want to be that devoted to their God, but school is to learn, it's not like it's a church or anything. I'm not saying ban them everywhere, but people don't exactly need to read them in class...do they?

In second hour today, a couple of kids from the school newspaper came in and conducted a poll, "Should teachers be allowed to talk about their religion or faith in school?" I said no (unless Christianity is brought up in world history courses, but that wasn't an option). However, I was very surprised at how many said yes, it was almost scary how many said yes, but that's what happens when you live in place with a bunch of fundamentalist Christians.

Agh...Necro, I hate all that school stuff. I must say, the committee in charge who are supposedly the intellects of the school, don't know a thing. Who would have such a poll? It surely brings no results and not something anyone cares about.

Oh and, I'm surprised that you were surprised! I wouldn't have a doubt on it.

Wow, that's very interesting and surprising. I just now looked up several legal cases and other information on the topic and you are schools are constitutionally bound to let a student (or faculty member) pray as long as it doesn't disrupt the educational process.
So as long as you're not making a spectacle of yourself you should be permitted to do this. Perhaps the next step is legal action?

Quite, all of APS and other schools had always allowed a lunchtime prayer, just not during class or anything. If a teacher doesn't allow you to do so, that's just plain not right. Legal action is definitely advised.

I guess i could bring this up to, atleast you dont have to pray, im forced and im not even christian, its just that it is so dominate in the area they automatically think everyone is, an example is before band performances and football performances our band director makes the entire band pray, and i mean ha makes us, even though theres me and 1 or 2 other non-christians

das, your director legally cannot force you to... stand up to him and tell him that he cannot tell you to pray, and if it continues, talk to your parents and have them go to the administration.... seperation of church and state isn't based on what area you are in (as long as we are talking about the US that is... if not, well, idk what to tell you)

@redwinger, well if you havn't seen any of my many posts stating this but, i cant tell my parents, im already in huge trouble for trying to get out of church (im telling you everyone is a christian except a few of my friends) also it isnt only the director almost every class the teachers make us pray for the class to do well, so theres honestly nothing i can do, its me vs. about everyone in the town if i tryed it

I understand why people don't want you to pray in school, but it should be allowed. I'm more worried about school fights, student behaviors in class and overall the way our generation is going straight down. We need to pick it up and for crying out loud kids, pull up your pants and stop trying to be thug, it just makes you a waste of perfectly good life...
