The topic says it all. I don't think that it's right. Especially last year when a lot of atheists complained about Christmas trees being called Christmas trees. How stupid is that?
If you do not believe in religion (atheism) how can you justify celebrating the birth of the son of God. That's contradiction. Maybe they just want presents.
But the thing is, not everyone who celebrates Christmas is celebrating the birth of God. It is part of the holiday season, and showing people that you care about them. Again, I will use my housemates as an example. I have 3 housemates with 3 differing religions: Jewish, Hindu, and Catholic. But we all take part in celebrations together because it is about sharing experiences. I mean, I took one of my roommates home for Thanksgiving last year because she has never celebrated it before, it is not part of her culture. We get a Christmas tree every year, and everyone decorates it. And then we light menorahs. I mean, what is America if not a melting pot? We have such wonderful diversity why shouldn't it be celebrated by everyone?
Even though Christianity had nothing to do with Christmas before later in history, Tempo? Are you ignorant to the facts, or are you just not willing to see that you might not be right?
I agree but still it should be "oliticaly correct" to call it a christmas tree and say merry christmas
I don't think it is politically correct or incorrect. I say Merry Christmas to everyone, regardless of religion. It is just a nice thing to say.
Carlie, you sure like using yourself as an example of a samaritan
No, I am using my house as an example of American diversity. And from what you are saying, I don't think you understand the meaning of the word 'samaritan'.

to be fair and for people to see your side you need to realize that they to have valid points
[quote]Cenere: no need to call me ignorant, i am just stating some opinions. if you don't agree thats fine but don't act tough and stoop to name calling.[quote]
he's one of the only people on here that ever see both sides of the argument
I will sincerely apologize for calling you ignorant, Tempo. I should not have done that, and it was very wrong of me, and rather rude. You have all the rights to think as you do.
I still think that Atheist have every right to enjoy christmas as the cultural festival it is. Just as much as anybody should.
i really could care less who celebrates what. it is none of my bees wax, but i still find it wrong. are they only atheist for 364 days a year and then celebrate christmas. If someone was truly atheist they would reject christmas just as they reject god.
does anyone see my point? even if you think i'm wrong do i make sense?
that's cool, everyone makes really good points. Christmas is a joyous time of the year. No point in arguing about it. We haven't even made it to Thanksgiving yet! haha
