The topic says it all. I don't think that it's right. Especially last year when a lot of atheists complained about Christmas trees being called Christmas trees. How stupid is that?

You Americans and your "holidays"... Anyway, the apology mattered to me, Tempo. I try to debate through the rules of equal discussion. Partly flaming an individual is not part of the rules, which is why I apologize for loosing my temper on something like this.

Hmm, I think I hould make a topic about fastelavn just to confuzzle all the non-scandinavs here.

i really could care less who celebrates what. it is none of my bees wax, but i still find it wrong. are they only atheist for 364 days a year and then celebrate christmas. If someone was truly atheist they would reject christmas just as they reject god.
I totally did that. Ended up hating Christmas for a few years because I managed to miss the fact that it's not all about the Christian traditions.
Not that I'm atheist, I just had a long period of hating Christianity and Catholicism - don't peck at me for that, I've grown out of it.
But you don't see how it's possible to celebrate most of Christmas without even touching the religious components?

@Cenere:
Technically you never called him ignorant. You asked whether he was that, or just did not want to admit he could be wrong. I don't think you needed to apologize for it, since you put your words like that.

Oh yes, let's do that! But it's a bit early...

What to call it then? Events? Here all the holidays are packing into the spring, but in America it seems to be all over the fall?
Well, at least you have a lot to celebrate, which is important. You might have a young nation, but through the time you have been doing more than many other contries have.

Oh, but that's a fun holiday! Back at the school I went to, most of our teachers used to dress up and perform a little play over that part of the story...
Americans don't have that? I actually find that weird.

@Cenere:
Could have been worse, but sure.

Should this topic be renamed "Do Atheists Have the Right to Celebrate Christmas"?

i don't think its a matter of right vs. wrong but a matter of a persons right (if that makes any sense)

Hmm, weirdish. Something the Amarican Christians do not know of? Can it be??!
Okay, loosing the melodramatics...

My father was born on that day, so not much celebrating at home. But I still know of the day?
