The topic says it all. I don't think that it's right. Especially last year when a lot of atheists complained about Christmas trees being called Christmas trees. How stupid is that?
Another name for Santa Claus, Scandinavian I think.
Correcting myself now. The Scandinavian version of that is Fader Jul, I forgot I was typing/thinking in English... It's a direct translation. But as Cenere said.
Does American atheists normally have a problem with people saying merry Christmas?
im not sure how many but it seemed like a lot i was all over the news but yes some do.
And what is it with the tree anyway? That tradition is a relatively new one, and what does it have to do with Christ?
I guess my main problem with this is last year they had christams trees and monoras in an arirport and i think they tried to sure them and picketed them for being un politicaly correct
Yeah that is a major problem in this country every one is too politically correct. In my opinion I think that it is right for them to celebrate Christmas. Especially if they have children. Just because you don not believe in God you can still go to heaven. It says so in the bible.
Did anyone else know that the bible stands for "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth"? I just found that out =)
Just because you don not believe in God you can still go to heaven. It says so in the bible.
um thats only if your sinles...other wise u have to accept jesus into your heart so i guess u dont need 2 believe but i dont know anyone who accepted jesus and doesnt beleive in god but any way i agree with the rest
are they only atheist for 364 days a year and then celebrate christmas. If someone was truly atheist they would reject christmas just as they reject god.
I understand what you are saying, and see your point. But you also have to understand that they are celebrating it for different reasons. They are not celebrating the religious holiday, they are celebrating the corporate form of it.
sure. let them exchange presents, thats all theyre doing. also, im sure most christians who celebrate dont really celebrate the religious part anyway. i believe in god, but dont really care much about the religious aspect. i dont get why they wage war to call it holiday tree or happy holidays or whatever. screw you its christmas : ) in conclusion, let them celebrate it, it doesnt affect you.
I rlly dont think so. They don't believe in God, and they don't make any other sacrifices that religions need. They just decide to take certain aspects from each religion and celebrate them because they can. They take christmas to get stuff for free, they take easter for the easter bunny, and they take other stuff from any other religious holiday to allow them to have all the fun they possibly can. Its like a stealing religion. They shouldn't be allowed to take our holiday, or even take symbolisms from our holiday for that matter cuz they just complain about it. They diss the christmas tree... what next we should stop calling stockings stockings?Or mistle toe, mistle toe? Aethiests beleive in no God, and christmas is fully about celebrating the birth of Christ (which i actually think took place some other time and their just covering up the pegan holiday with this new holiday) but nonetheless their celebrating a day for Christ's birth. Aethiests just ruin that by deciding to take it for themselves. Sry guys, but unless you beleive in God you definately shouldn't be celebrating christmas.
It might be a corporate scheme now, but it wasn't in past generations. Our media is ran by atheists, so we are always going to have a problem with them saying Merry Christmas. In my opinion, it offends the atheists by saying Merry Christmas as much as it offends me by not using it. It will be a never-ending battle. If you have a problem with it, then don't use it. The same can go for Christians, if you have a problem with using Happy Holidays, then go right ahead and use Merry Christmas, but just don't push that on others. I personally have an issue with not using in, but I still respect the ones who don't find it right to do so.
