So ya apparently this Holocaust nonbeliever named his kid Adolf Hitler. (Hitler being his middle name).

When he and his wife went to get his name put on a cake at a grocery store for his birthday, the store refused to put it on for them.

What do you think of this? Did the store have the right to refuse?

Either way...it doesn't look like this kid is going to get invited to any Batmitzfas any time soon. =P

It's a private company. They should have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

Couldn't that be considered discriminating against other people's beliefs then?

Don't they have the right to name their kid whatever they want?

they shouldn't be able to do that, you think they would just put his name on it for the money

Why would someone name a kid that? Hitler is probably his middle name, but that is still downright stupid to name a kid after the person who started the holocost.

Here's an article on the subject for reference.

The manager refused because he considered the cake inappropriate, just like the swastica cake they requested the previous year. Sort of like how a store will tend to refuse service if you show up without a shirt or shoes on. There's nothing overtly wrong with it, but its inapropriate, and the store has the latitude to make that determination.

I felt sorry for the kid
because it was his parents that named him that
and I think the store is going to get there asss (note the extra s)
sued and the parent will win because that is what happens most of the time the big evil store will have to give the family about $10 million

Hmm. I dunno if I feel sorry for the kid, because I'm not sure he will feel sorry for himself. It's likely that he will adopt his parent's beliefs. And if not, he can have his name changed at 18.

Since being a bigot or just crappy human being in general is not protected, beyond their freedom to name their kids Adolph Hitler and JoyceLynn Aryan Nation, the store had a right to refuse to make the cake. it's not like they refused to make it the cake because the customers are white. And what if the employee had been a Jew for instance? The company had the right to refuse in both a business sense and a moral one.

thelistman is right any company has the right to refuse service, whether it was morally right or not is another question, however if you are going to question the morality of the storeowners you have to question the morality of the parents who chose to name their child adolph hitler. What if the kid grows up to have normal belifs, he will be undooubtedly bullied for life, and in addition to what extent are people allowed to glorify the Nazi regime. Do you know what country this was in? In certain places it is illegal to be a holocaust denyer.

No, they did not. It is a direct violation of rights, plus, it's just a freaking name.

But actually, it really depends on the country :P

What rights? I don't see how &quoteople with stupid and racist names" is a protected group or people.

I would totally disagree with him being named this, but yet again the system prevails them in favor wih freedom of speech. As for the cake factory, they also have the right to turn them down, I would've as well.

I agree with kris1027. As has been said before private companies can choose to refuse service to anyone as long as it is not based on their race or creed. Seeing as this kids name falls under neither of those specifications then it is fine.
