I think that it is a good thing. Because I am strongly against abortion and contraceptives, and lets face it: sex makes babies. So being abstinent (if you are against abortion and contraceptives like I am) prevents and unwanted son or daughter.

But lets face the facts, abstinence in youth isn't a reality. The average age that Americans lose their virginity at is 16. Please note that that is the average; many lose their virginity younger, many older.
Either way, these kids are at a stage in their life where they aren't ready to deal with the consequences that a pregnancy could result in. They are also at a part of their life where they're going to do what they want, no matter what they've been taught or lectured on.
I went to a high school in Texas that had an abstinence-only sex education program. Around 15% of the girls in that high school ended up pregnant before the age of 18.
My current high school, which informs students of different forms of protection such as contraceptives and condoms, encourages abstinence at well. Notice, there are no pregnant girls here. I'm sure that plenty have sex; the different is that the couples who are engaging in sexual activity know how to keep themselves safe.
Personally, I know the goal of abstinence went out the window as soon as I was 15 and started dating. I still planned on waiting, but when the opportunity presents itself and no one's there to stop you, it will happen.
sex and abstinence aren't the problems. The problems are abortion that come from it and children missing school due to deciding on keeping the baby.
I agree, but until birth control and condoms are 100% effective, we won't be completely clear of abortion and children missing school due to deciding on keeping the baby. Therefore, abstinence should be a cocept taught right away. Then maybe teach about safe sex, but give the message time to sink in first.
I agree, but until birth control and condoms are 100% effective,
When used in tandem, condoms and contraceptive birth control are as close to 100% effective as you'll ever get. If more schools taught this, we wouldn't have nearly as many unwanted pregnancies in teenagers.
...But using condoms and birth control is not abstaining. Abstinence is refraining from having sex until you are married. Also, some forms of birth control, such as abortion, is murder.

And as long as that fact remains, unwanted pregnancies and abortion will occur. So we need to instead try to create a way of thinking among youth that is not as sexually needy. This way, we avoid all these issues.
...Abstinence is not birth control and unwanted pregnancies. Abstinence is abstaining from sex until you are married. And even then, you only have sex with the one whom you are married too. That, and even the best condoms and birth control methods will not stop STDs.

I've got an idea: Bland-colored clothing that show no skin. Without constant sexual reminders with views of cleavage and such, teens will be less sexually active. Of course, all people between the ages of 13 and 18 will be required to wear the garments.
Also, I bet we could create hormone-altering drugs so that all the chemicals that control sexual activity in teenagers could be suppressed.

True, but remember that unwanted pregnancies are worse than STDs because they are only temporary (sarcasm)

Or we could tell teenagers that sex is dangerous and stupid to do at an early age rather than tell them how safe and wonderful it is. Maybe won't be fast and effective, but it will end the sexual needs eventually.
