philippines used to be H1N1 free, until some university student passed his flu to some students there, hopefully it would stop spreading...

Yesterday there are only 3 people got infected but now its 45 this virus is getting more worse,No cure could penetrate this virus,I dont know how much longer we could sustain and Evade this virus,I heard rumors that if you wear a gas mask you wont get infected

My ex girlfriend has officially been informed that she has it as of today. She has been told to stay inside and not do too much and to take various anti biotics every day etc etc and judging from most cases so far it'll clear up in about a week. There is no specifically made cure but there is still effective treatment. Nothing to worry about as long as you go to the doctor when you get sick.

I believe there is a pseudo cure. that allows your symptoms to be repressed.

Well, as said, the virus is really quite a bit more contagious. But it also happens to be fairly mild.

It has now reached the hospital I'm training at. My classmates are naturally rather paranoid, and a number of them are coughing...

Personally, I don't get all the freaking. Sure it's almost a pandemic, but the people it tends to kill are around Strop's age, not ours. Don't worry. And like Strop said, H1N1 is mild.

Of course, if this evolved into something more deadly we have a problem. We'd have another 1918 all over again. Millions dead....

But hey, I'm an optimist

How can it not be considered a pandemic? By definition it is a pandemic...

Because it's not everywhere. Just almost everywhere. And, whatshername, the spokesperson who would declare that, hesitates to declare a pandemic because there is a chance of over-reaction, such as mass slaughter of pigs.

I thought the definition of pandemic is when something pops up in multiple unrelated areas at once. Not when it's in every country... Oh well, I think the quicker they accept it for what it is the quicker people can get used to it and try to fight it.

Yeah, now it's a pandemic.

I'll say it again: it's a pandemic, i.e. a level 6 WHO pandemic alert.

This is important: as I've been saying earlier in this thread, while apparently less virulent (in its original form, I'll come back to this), the virus is extremely contagious. A small number of cases is not an indicator of safety as infection rates rise exponentially. Seven weeks ago, there were 100 cases in Mexico. One month ago there were 1000 cases worldwide. Now there are 28000 cases worldwide.

And, to follow up on what I was saying earlier, there are concerns that the virus has already mutated, which means that vaccines and treatments may be rendered ineffective and the virulence ('deadliness' of the virus is increased.

You've played Pandemic enough to know how it works.

I always lose at Pandemic; somehow Cuba shuts down it's airports every time...

ANYWAYS!
I really don't think the flu is that big of a deal. In the article Strop linked to, it says:
"Worldwide, the virus has spread to 74 countries, infecting more than 27,700 people and causing more than 140 deaths."
140! OH NO! Thats almost as many as the regular flu strain kills every year! I recognize that the flu is very widespread(27,700 is a big number), but I'm not afraid of being killed by it any time soon. I'd actually like to get it. Doesn't anyone else think it would be cool to be part of some nice club of special people? Ok, maybe I'm crazy.

This is what I think:

I've heard that it only targets people with weak immune systems so my thinking is that if your not a baby or and elderly person I think you are pretty much okay.
Yeah wash your hands but don't overdo it I think it'll pass over in a matter of time.

Watch this video I think Dan Brown has a good view on it.

Watch it.
