Yes, we can. This country is all about freedom of speech. Also, unless you were actually part of those horrible things, you can't really say "you" did them.
this is a very interesting topic. americans have done some truly horrible things. however, if you look at america compared to other countries like the stans, america has it far better. there is less poverty, a more stable government, and constant warfare is not being fought on our own soil. but there are some things that americans have done that no one would be proud of. but i think that if you look at the big picture of how our lives are good and peaceful, then you could be proud to be an american. to some degree...
I say sometimes yes, and sometimes no. I can expand if you want.
I think I know what you mean....
Do you mean you feel patrotic as some points about your country, but when some events occure you change your mind? Let's say, your proud when Obama was selected as president? But you were not happy when he declared world war three?
I love America 100%! I am VERY proud to be a part of this nation! (Yes, even when BUSH was president).
We may have done some bad things, but no one seems to remember all the good. We threw off tyranny, we emancipated the slaves, we were the major allied force in WWII, and we (especially under George W. Bush) donate billions to Africa. I am VERY proud to be an american!
I'm as proud to be American as much as a nihilist is proud to be alive. Completely neutral. Though I do rather disdain the USA- like most European people, apparently. I'm no Orrin hatch. I'm not Amazed by America. (If yo uwatch the Colbert Report, you'd get this.)
If you pay your taxes, you have an indirect hand in everything the government ever does.
Yeah, except for the fact the paying taxes is mandatory!!!
I am amazed, 100%. And if you're disdainful you are not "neutral."
@Programpro: you are confused. I'm neutral about being an American, though I disdain the country as a whole. There have been many good and bad things that have come out of the USA- it's a mixed bag.
I'm more proud to be me than anything else. Being an American is just one aspect of myself, and it doesn't have anything to do with my being proud. I think someone could be proud to be an American if they are proud of America's deeds. I like some of the things we have done, and others not so much. So, I'm not exactly proud to be an American, but I am a proud America.
