Today North Korea sent a message to the US, in the form of seven ballistic missiles. Obviously, they didn't hit anything, but it is still going to increase tension between the UN and North Korea.
What I'm wondering though, is why in the world they would launch missiles that they know aren't going to get close to the US. Also, North Korea isn't exactly the largest country, and if the US was to go to war with them it would be over very quickly. North Korea wouldn't be able to match the size of the army, and our own nuclear weapons could wipe them off the map if we chose to use them.
How do you feel about the situation? Will the US once again be police of the world, or will we for once make the UN deal with this on their own? Is Kim Jong Il just stupid, or is there a reason he spends millions of dollars to develop missiles, then sends them shooting into the ocean?
I watched a documentary about some German doctor who went in NK to cure old people from cataract since medical care is not that good in that part of the world. And after his intervention, when doctor removed bandages from people's eyes, they went to the picture of Kim and started thanking him from curing them. Maybe they wouldn't do that if they were alone and not in the full room but it's a fact that people are scared of him and there are even some that believe in everything he says.

I think that they probably would. I mean they've been brainwashed that he's a God, and since there's no outside influence there's would challenge that.

I was being sarcastic with the police of the world thing. However, with the comment about it being over quickly, it probably would be. Nearly any country could go to war with NK and it wouldn't last long. NK doesn't have any allies that would stand up for them.
You obviously do not seem to realize that North Korea has nothing to loose if they were to attack another country. If they were to be nuked by another country, all they would loose is a crap military and a dieing country.

That's possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Canada has a ready army (that means alot of the civilians would go to join the army write away if war started).
And Canada has alot of allies. If any country were 1st to go I think it'd be U.S.A everyone hates them except a select few. Like in NK it's the governments fault.

And I agree that North Korea can't do a damn thing to us, even if missiles were a few miles from our country the US has plenty of antimissle systems to shoot them down. Then we just have to take 2 or 3 ballistic missles from or vast warhead stash to blow up their entire country. They are not a match to the United States, its kinda of like a little kid going up to his older brother and then doing the "im not touching you" rountine and recieves a punch to the face. US has no worries, because even though we are in a recession, funds to our military are not drawn back. Or we could just send Obama over there and have him deal with them Chicago stlye ;D

Kim Jong Il may not care, but other members of the government would. I understand it's a dictatorship, but I think that since his health seems to be deteriorating he's probably losing the absolute control he once had.
