Since I have joined Armorgams . . .I see a lot of Atheists and their threads about why people believe in God etc . . . I wanted to start a thread about the bible and christianity.

The purpose of this thread is to debate a different book of the bible each week. We will discuss lessons, morals, and different stories.

We will have friendly debates. Please . . . if you are atheist or of other beliefs . . . you may discuss in this thread, just PLEASE no fighting, flaming, spamming, trolling . . . etc

This week we will begin from the beginning . . . .Genesis

[quote] Can you just let Christians alone anyway alt, you are getting boring by wanting to change peoples opinions.

-_-

first of all, I was asked by snazzy to keep debating here. Second, if you take what I day as gospel and change your opinion based on it, you're an idiot.

Alt is right, we want to have a good clean denate and that is what alt is helping us do.

Well for the most part, we are supposed to follow the New Testament.

Here is a good link that explains why:

http://www.kc-cofc.org/39th/IBS/Tracts/oldornew.htm

I still think the Ten Commandments should be followed though. . .

I agree with snazzy when it comes down to it the New Testament trumps the Old, Leviticus is a bit um outdated.

Hey, Im about to go to an alter serving training, so if anyone wants to know about what goes on during the mass and preparing for mass ask me, It'll be fresh in my mind.

I also agree that we should still follow the Ten Commandments, even if they are in the old testament. But they are used in the new testament as well.

But the thing is, in Matthew it says to follow the Old Testament too. and Matthew is New Testament. And Leviticus is in the Old Testament, so the Bible basically says to follow Leviticus. . .yeah. . . .

what is alter service training?

In my church there are people called alter servers that help the priest do the mass. For example we carry in the cross, hold the patents, pour the water and wine for some things, light and put out the candles, and more stuff like that.

Leviticus is a book full of old laws. Laws that mostly are no longer in use. Like the ten commandments these laws were fufilled by Christ's perfect life. No one can obey all the ten commandments they were not written to follow but to condemn. They show us that we are sinners and that we need someone to intercede for our sakes. The sacrifice of animals was looking forward to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and a reminder of how serious sin is to God. Something must die to attone for sin. This is where Jews go off the deep end. This book is not full of laws for today but is full of laws that were to be followed before Jesus came. Jesus came and fufilled them all and now they are simply a reminder to us of how holy and pure God is and how wicked and damned we are on our own.

And yet the new testament has many passages that explicitly instruct not to ignore the old testament:

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
