Since I have joined Armorgams . . .I see a lot of Atheists and their threads about why people believe in God etc . . . I wanted to start a thread about the bible and christianity.
The purpose of this thread is to debate a different book of the bible each week. We will discuss lessons, morals, and different stories.
We will have friendly debates. Please . . . if you are atheist or of other beliefs . . . you may discuss in this thread, just PLEASE no fighting, flaming, spamming, trolling . . . etc
This week we will begin from the beginning . . . .Genesis
The book of Genesis is most interesting, but I do believe in a literal 7 day creation. In the garden of eden Adam and Eve were able to coexist with everything because sin had not come around yet. Before sin there was not death and Genesis says that the fruit of the trees and ground was for food for ALL the beasts, birds, and for the people. There were no carnivours at this time. And as for the snakes, yes they did have legs but God put a curse on them and they lost their legs due to Lucifer using their form. God forgives us of our sins, and the snakes did not sin but they are more or less a symbol of sin to remind us of our downfall and our need for Christ.
I know that was really late I just thought I'd give my input on it. As for Goliath and David what is there to discuss about it? The Lord's hand is visible through the whole story, from directing the rock, to giving David, a young boy, more courage than all the men of Israel and even more courage than the King of Israel. Goliath had heavy armour on, massive and heavy weapons, and the pure coincidence of the rock striking him just right to kill him, yeah right? God directed it perfectly, David knew it, and he gave all the glory to God. And whats quite amazing is later on David went around fighting with Goliath's sword O_o strong eh?
-Nice story exept for that existance of Goliath is impossible.
It's not impossible at all, we have giants these days that walk about and one of the easiest explinations for Goliath is that he is one of the decendents of the Nephilium, or the Angles that came down and took for themselves human wives before the flood. It's true that they were wiped out by the flood but from what I can tell from Genesis 6:4 is that they could have come again afterwards and from them came the decendents of Anak, who are talked about in Numbers 13:33 where the Israelites are scared of attacking Canaan because the people are giants. The decendents of Anak were said to have been in Gath which the last of them, I believe, were slain by David and his men. It is talked about in 1 Chron 20:6 and 2 Samuel 21:20.
Giants were around back then, and even today . . .Angels came down and had children, which were said to be giants and sometimes heroes, leading to mammoth people. Goliath was one of those giants and he had giants that were his relatives. . .
Muslims believe some wierd crap in my opinion and as for Jews they should believe the same about the old testament. The Muslims have the Koran which is by no means related to the Bible. Or more correctly the Word of God as bible only means a collection of books. And if you read in Genesis 6 you will see where it talks about the Angels and the daughters of men and the children they gave birth to. It is thought that much of Greek mythology originated from them.
Well . . .the Bible says that in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, one must accept Jesus into his/her heart and believe that He died on the cross for our sins. Other religions do not believe or follow that, so they would go to hell unless they changed their ways.
I'd say that while the aggressiveness of Goliath was probably exaggerated - he was most likely just a normal person with a growth disorder - that an event similar to this may have occurred.
A man hears stories of a giant, goes and kills said giant, and is celebrated by the people.
So do Christians. And I know you'll say that's not true - why? Because you're Christian
I mean we do, most people do think about it believing that we came from a single cell organism or that they're eleven dimensions is a bit strange, then again so is God. Also I'm going to have to agree with alt on this one he was most likely just a normal person with a growth disorder, he was only about 9 feet tall,
Only 9 ft. tall? 9 feet tall is pretty big . . . and read Gen.6, I believe. It speaks of Angels having children with mortal women and having extraordinarily large children who later became heroes. . .
I mean we do, most people do think about it believing that we came from a single cell organism or that they're eleven dimensions is a bit strange, then again so is God
God is not strange, we just don't fully understand Him.
