The United States pledge of allegiance

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands: one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

This is repeated every morning by students all over the world, and is recited at many events. However, there's one part that many people have a problem with. "One nation, under God". Why should Americans be forced to acknowledge the existence of God to pledge their allegiance to their country?

So my question to you: Should the "under God" be removed from the pledge of allegiance?

Well, maybe. I mean the pledge is said in school all the time and there is supposed to be Seperation of religon and state or something like that isn't there?

But that would kind of be like removing the words "in God we trust" on all of our currency, idk where I'm going with this. I guess technically yes it should be removed but I don't really care and I'm not sure why other people care. The pledge is part of our nation's identity =/

This is kinda like the issue of "should immigrant have to learn english?" After all, The english speaking population is much larger than those who can't speak english.

I don't think it should be removed for the same reasons i think immigrants from foreign countries should learn english. In The USA, Religious groups that believe in God vastly outnumber non believers. So my answer to your question, again.

No.

I'm not a very patriotic person. . . .

Therefore, I don't care about our pledge. I stopped saying it during school a long time ago. . .I still say it at baseball games and at veteran's day and such out of respect, but not during a regular school day.

I have not said the pledge in years. I decided never to say the pledge or put my hand over my heart in 5th grade. And I haven't done so yet. I am offended by the 'Under God' part, as always, not all Americans believe in 'God', people have to understand that, one of my teachers flipped out cause I wouldn't put my hand over my heart or say the pledge.

I don't get in trouble, I just get strange looks from all the teachers. And some of the teachers don't respect me much. I hate the way God has taken over the innocents minds... Much like a zombie. Relevance?

It's people's choice to believe.

It's strange how when I was illegally in the US, I was made to do the pledge.

Since there are a majority of Christians in the US, the pledge was made the way it is.

Though, I personally think that one shouldn't be forced to recite those parts if they don't believe in God.

I always wondered why people would put their hands on the left side of the chest. Apparently, it's due to a misconception.

You don't have to say the pledge if you don't want, so no it shouldn't be taken out.

No because this country was born on Christianity. That is why it is in there.

You forget that up until a certain age you aren't allowed to think for yourself. You're supposed to be a robot and be proud of your country no matter what they do, support Christianity because it's right, and not point out when adults are wrong. What age can you stop doing this? Oh, 18 is ok. Up until then you'd better watch it.

What?

Yeah, I just realized I messed that up. Lol, I even remember thinking to myself "ok, don't look like an idiot and put all over the world. Then when I edited and changed some things, I forgot about that.

Though, I personally think that one shouldn't be forced to recite those parts if they don't believe in God.

We're not forced to, but why should the official pledge have something in it that many people don't agree with. Especially something like religion, it's so controversial.

No because this country was born on Christianity.

It's kind of like my argument against total gun rights. The constitution was written back when the world was much different. America isn't really a "Christian nation" anymore, so it should better represent us. Or at least leave religion out of it all.
