"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands: one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
This is repeated every morning by students all over the world, and is recited at many events. However, there's one part that many people have a problem with. "One nation, under God". Why should Americans be forced to acknowledge the existence of God to pledge their allegiance to their country?
So my question to you: Should the "under God" be removed from the pledge of allegiance?
That's precisely my point. 20% are not a majority - the majority disagreed with the decision to remove the ten commandments from the judicial building.
I'm setting a legal precedent where a legal decision made to separate church and state and that was widely unpopular in the religious majority was still unconstitutional, and the courts ruled in that fashion anyway.
i get the point that the supreme court could change the pledge of alligance, but somehow it didnt bother people and it didnt happen. and i really do not see a point, why to change a traditional document because of one sentence. just make it voluntary to say it and everyone will be fine. its like when you in court and put under oath, you are asked whether you take the oath on the bible or the constitution. so everyone can be pleased

And yet the pledge of allegiance was changed - as the 'under god' section of the pledge of allegiance was *added* to the pledge and signed into law on June 14th 1954.

If it should be 'voluntary' then the basic pledge should not include it, and if religious people want to add their own stuff to their own pledges, fine; but the actual pledge should not include anything about god - it's about the constitutional separation of church and state.
just did some research upon this. and since the sentence under god was only included to attack a group of people("godless commies" D.Eisenhower) it should be changed, to its original state.
and i also think, that the whole pledge should be a voluntary act, and not something you force upon people
