Lately I've been seeing a lot of people who have 10,000+ AP, and all they've done is rate 1,000 games and comment a million times. While I'm over here just playing games I like, and having fun in the forums. So even though I'm not worried about AP too much, it just kind of annoys me that that's all they care about on the site.
My question to you guys is what do you think the best way to gain AP is? Would you respect someone if they were #1 on the site but had never made a single forum post? Or how about if all they had were forum posts?
My favorite way to get AP...at least I THINK it's been giving me AP, since I've got a lot of AP that I couldn't figure out.
Flagging spammy comments on games. I must be getting AP for this because I do it a lot, and I have more AP that all my forum posts, ratings, and comments combined...
Honestly I think the most respect goes to people who post intelligently on the forums. They may not be in the top ten points but everyone knows who they are when they post.
I would say a long time ago, for me, merits and forum posts are my favorite/easiest way to get points. But nowadays I would say Rating games and commenting games. Merits are really hard to get now, I used to be able to get a merit for every great game review, but now, I almost never get a merit.
The most respectable way, of course, is merits. Forum posts can still be obtained through spam. Merits are not automatically gotten,
Agreed. With discussions like these it is important to note one thing: It is not how you gain the ap, but what you gain it with. A merit is good stuff, and good constructive posts are as well. For that sake, profile comments done to explain and make people feel good is actually quite respectable too. What you write is what people judge you from.
Personally, I think merits can be the least "respectful way" considering it's just people going for a number.
Agreed once again. I think I might be a bit biased on that point, simply because I write them for the review/help the creator, and not the merit itself. Also, considering that merits can be gained thought contests as well, it makes them less... But well. It is much like creating art. You have to consider what other people get from it, but even more importantly, you need to stand by it and be proud of it as well.
Aaaaaanyway... I'm gonna have to say that merits CAN be respectable, should they be gained through winning a contest, but depending on you intentions while writing a review, it is and isn't at the same time. If you intend on getting the merit for the sake of having points, meh. If you intend on writing a review and helping the creator, then way to go.
Anyway is respectable as long as people don't spam games (Top of the leader board last month) Merits aren't just given away and people have to put time into making a merit worthy comment so that's a respecatble way to gain ap
