Lately I've been seeing a lot of people who have 10,000+ AP, and all they've done is rate 1,000 games and comment a million times. While I'm over here just playing games I like, and having fun in the forums. So even though I'm not worried about AP too much, it just kind of annoys me that that's all they care about on the site.
My question to you guys is what do you think the best way to gain AP is? Would you respect someone if they were #1 on the site but had never made a single forum post? Or how about if all they had were forum posts?
Why aren't merits the most respectable way to earn AP?

I have to disagree with the whole merit being the most respectable way to gain AP. Since, people that get merits are usually just going for the merit, not the actual review, I have personally sent more reviews through emails or things as such then I have posted. So, it all depends on the posts, Comments could even be the most respectable depending on the thought and how well it is put.

yes it is, but also not, you can get merit by winning a contest.
I know I'm not 'respected' enough to answer this thread, but you can try making a good post, become resourceful, fun and friendly on every post. It's worth writing a good post.
I think to become a spammer is a quick way to get AP but it's like wasting your time to nothingness, isn't it?
I don';t really worry about the points any more since I have become a Moderator (on another site).
What site? Just curious.
Well getting 66 merits probaly got me well known. I would say forum posts and merits.
When did you get most those merits? Because I've been having a bit of trouble without the vote up button, lol. (And no, that's not why I support bringing it back.)
